    Guys: Shave your legs?

Ok, I know a lot of guys my age (66) don't need to. Actually a lot of my fellow geezers can only grow nasal and ear hair. After 2 "Laugh In " falls I shaved mine. Curious to know about other members. Nick

I do shave my legs though I haven't yet after this winter. I told myself I would do it as soon as I got back into better shape. lol I expect it will happen this week because I have a couple century rides coming up.

I've been shaving for a few decades now. Long Run, as you've discovered, it makes it much easier to take care of the wound, when you do hit the pavement. But, there is another reason, one I consider
very important: Ladies appreciate it. A lot. You will have to discover this for yourself.

I have been accused by my wife of shaving, however, I have blond hair and fair skin with little or no hair on my legs and arms. My avatar looks as if I do shave. Sort of the best of both worlds but the lessening of hair on my head is of some concern.

Gave up shaving my legs 15+ years ago when I quit racing. And MY lady definitely did NOT appreciate my smooth legs...

Never have, never will, it's bad enough having to shave my face on a regular basis.

Short hair is good, but actually shaving is too much bother. So I clip but rarely shave. Clipping makes the sunblock go on much better.

Although I would hate to speak for them - I seriously doubt our recumbent riders shave their legs

Many of the 50+ riders I know (male and female) have flabby skin (even though they have reasonable muscle definition). Hair at least goes some way to disguise this rather unpleasant sight.

I do admit that someone of any age with very well defined leg muscles and tight skin can look a million dollar with shaved legs... male or female.

I've tried it several times, but there are some issues. Hair helps pants and leg warmers go on better. Hair also is its own partial sunscreen. The increased surface area of hair helps increase the cooling effect of sweat in summer, and hair helps warmth retention in winter. And there is the time factor involved in shaving.

If you have to shave because of crash injuries, you need to learn to ride your bike better.

Having said all that, I do prefer Machka to have shaved legs... but then her hairiness is not overly furocious when she she doesn't.

+1 Of course I'm so slow it wouldn't make any difference. But I hate shaving so much I know I couldn't do my legs on a regular basis!

If you keep falling you'll need to shave.

It's my understanding (and I could be way wrong) that shaving one's legs is done because one often is wearing adhesive tape to cover road damage from crashes. Oh and vanity. Much like girls. But then roadies have (and this was well explored in a thread in Feb.) a powerful feminine aspect.

I have lost all of the hair on my shins. I know I have barked them up a lot over the years. But it's like I have a pattern baldness. So while I don't shave my legs my leading edges are smooth...

I had to look this one up.

I thought surely you meant "ferocious" but considering the respectability of the source I found this in the Urban Dictionary:

    furocious
    furrr-roh-shuhs
    –adjective
    1. furry, fur-like, fuzzy, animalistic in appearance with a tendency to act out in a wild, savage, and or fierce manor.

    2. savagely brazen or bold, having a primal clarity in directive, as a wild beast, a person, action, function, or idea: a furocious exposition

    3. intense or extreme: a furocious hunger

—Synonyms 1. ravenous, relentless, furvid, veracious

But then I wouldn't trust a source purporting to be a dictionary that confuses "manor" with "manner" and is "furvid" a word? It would be a pretty cool word. "He lusted after her in a furvid manor"

If you are "adventurous" look up the adverb...

I was ill when i was young, very hi fever, 107, after meds and getting well the hair on my legs just quit growing. Smooth as a babies behind. The only place it grows on my legs are just below the knee cap in a small area. I always get asked if i shave my legs but i don't have to. Lucky me.

    Yes, for 1 reason:

My massage therapist strongly prefers it.
    I prefer it.
    My wife prefers it.
Injury clean up is a breeze.
I find it much cooler in the summer.
Shaving my legs makes me feel sooo manly.

Ok, so I am not much on counting.

Some of our silent participants do, and they have mighty fine looking legs.

Not as often as I should -- extended family in the house, and tying up the bathroom for too long a time isn't advisable. So I've gotten lazy about it. Most of it's about chafed off, anyway.

VASTLY prefer putting on tights, shorts, clothes of any kind, without the hair.

Do the arms, too -- and the chest, about 1-2x/year. HATE hairs getting caught/pulled by cotton shirts.

Having been a swimmer, runner, cyclist, triathlete of some sort most of my life and not being particularly gifted with hair (but for my head thankfully), yes, I shave when I think about it. I don't make a big deal over it and sometimes I slide for a while and nobody ever really notices best I can tell.
