The simple joys...
Riding conditions were just perfect this morning. Cool temps, no wind and not a car on the roadway. The only sound I heard was from my wheels spinning across a smooth pavement. I just love that sound, but usually it is drowned out by cars, wind and bumpy road conditions. Today was an exception.
What are some of the simple things you experience that keep you going out day after day?

The sound of my tires on the pavement, and the animals along the trail.

If I look at yesterdays ride in the rain- then it makes me realise that I must enjoy cycling and must have the aptitude to do it. I did not realise it yesterday- but today I realised how hard I must have worked on the bike but I still had the energy and enthusiasm to do a 20 mile recovery ride that turned into 30 to take in a few hills and Pie.

I started out because I thought cycling would be good for me and I didn't care to work out in a gym. After a while I enjoyed the feeling of testing my legs, lungs and heart as they got stronger. Soon it was the changed attitude I had when I saw a hill 10 miles into a ride that seemed like the Alps to me and now is simply a bump in the road. There are still hills that seem like the Alps to me and I still hate hills but there are now fewer grades that I consider hills.

On one of my regular routes there is a 5 mile stretch of recently repaved road that is flat to slightly downhill. I get the greatest feeling as I shift into the big ring at the start of that stretch, realizing what is coming.

To me it's the post ride shower. And the way my legs feel for a few hours afterward.
And being the passer and not the passed...

I almost didn't recognize you, what with the new avatar. He didn't just die, did he? (you know, part of the Art Linkletter, Gary Coleman, Dennis Hopper group)

After the holocaust there will still be cockroaches and Keith Richards. I was inspired by listening to the re-release of my all time favorite Stones album, Exile on Mainstreet.

I've yet to hear the remastered Exile on Mainstreet. Can you tell the difference in a digital format? My favorites were the three that preceded it: Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers.

I don't think the sound is very different. Maybe a punched up guitar lead here or a clearer vocal there. But I haven't done any A-B comparisons. It sounds good. The second disc is interesting. Some of the "new" songs they made from partial tracks sound like they may have been early versions of songs that were on the original album. I could definitely hear Ventilator Blues in one of the new songs and Tumbling Dice in another.
