Are things getting a bit testy lately?
Have a few of the threads on 50+ been a bit more testy lately? Or, perhaps it the combined effects of the Flexeril and Oxycodone I'm on trying to recover from my latest crash. These two prescriptions are quite interesting. They do alleviate the pain and make being awake quite a bit easier, but the "mellow" effect is a bit disturbing. Anyway.... never mind, I forgot what I was going to say.

It happens every year at this time. My theory is that as we come out of hibernation and start riding more, our hormone levels get higher and we get a little more "enthusiastic" about everything.

No, I've noticed it too. I never thought I consider adding 50+ers to my Ignore List, but there are a couple of candidates.

I don't think it's gotten that much testier -- I think maybe there have been fewer folks jumping into testy threads trying to calm them down. I used to think that it was worth my time to do that., but I haven't lately. Maybe some of us who have been around could try to keep the peace (I'm blaming myself here for being less active in trying to calm things down, not anyone else). Sometimes a brief, Rodney-Kingesque "why can't we all get along" from an old timer can be helpful.

If it makes you feel better...
I was reviewing some of the things people on this site argue about with the nurses I worked with this morning.
One of them started giggling. "You should see the stuff that goes down on the forum I hang around. The discussions get so heated the moderators have to jump in and let things cool down a bit".
The forum: a knitting forum.
"You wouldn't believe the types of things people come to blows over. Bamboo versus wood, blunt versus pointed, people argue about what kind of needles others should be using and won't back down if someone disagrees with them".
I told her to suggest ti or carbon fiber needles and report back to me the responses.
Anyway, yes, people are a bit more testy, and I'm sure I'm one of them, for which I apologize. I attribute it to the steady stream of bad news we've been receiving for some time now.

Things written in print sometimes get interpreted by the reader the wrong way, there are no visual or audible clues to pick up on. What might have been a tongue in cheek comment is taken as a flame and the escalation begins. I think we are all guilty from time to time of both sides of this.
There are some threads going on right now that I just refuse to open anymore, there is no useful information or positive social value anymore. There are a few conversations I wish I had never even participated in.
But with that said - there is still net positive value here.

I'm never testy and I'll punch out anyone who says I am.
TWL makes a good point. The fishing forum I visit is full of people who are at each other's throats, and one of the lung cancer support forums got so bad I stopped posting there. You would think people there, of all places, would keep things in a better perspective, but not so.

most people can then figure out your intending the comment to light hearted....

This is something that has been going on all over BF. It's just taken longer to filter into 50+. I'm waiting for the nastiness to start filtering into Clydes/Athenas.

I plead guilty - at least in one thread, and my apologies to all.
I should know better and when to back off, and to give folks the benefit of the doubt.
Sorry!!

Sometimes, what starts as a testy response to something that hits a sore spot escalates because those involved can't see another way out of it. Backing down is seen by some as weakness, and the only way to save face is to keep pushing.
Well, I was taught that it takes a bigger character to admit you may be wrong, and apolgize than to keep standing on a contrary position.
There was a case here recently where I ripped into a poster with no justification to do so. After being roundly, and rightly chastized, I sent an apology by p.m. to the individual I had wronged. The apology was graciously accepted, and we move on.
This remains one of the most civil on line communities I have taken part in, and I will do what I can to help keep it that way.
What I really don't like is when posters hid behind the anonymity of screen names to spew their invective. I don't have a problem with screen names per se, even though I chose to post under my real name. I realize there are legitimate privacy concerns with doing so.
If you are going to call me out on something though, you will have a lot more credibility if I can see who you are.
Meanwhile, keep it civil, OR ELSE.

I believe it is just that the list of taboo subjects just keeps expanding. We all realize that bike material, saddle types and wheel choice will get someone’s hackles so the posts discussing those subjects are open to snippy remarks. In real life these issues come up but like someone said facial expressions can smooth out things a bit.

Excellent timing on this thread as I've been contemplating offering up a general apology for any feelings I may have hurt through voicing my strong opinions as of late on a couple of debates.
I know I've jumped in on a few threads that I should have stayed away from. As usual, I generally regret opening my big mouth after it's too late.
My apologies to all for spoiling anyones enjoyment on this forum.
Now it's time to take a break and work on some bikes.

Problem is that we are Human. We take and give offence to "Some" others without realising it. Very rarely is it intentional--or at least on this forum.
I have a different sense of humour and you have a different culture to me so I will offend and get offended.
Hard luck.

I apologize in advance for this comment but
WHAT'S WRONG WITH TESTY ?
As long as no one throttles me with a hand thru the monitor, it's all good.

However, IMO, and I think it is safe to say, some of us are getting old in the head, as in "set in ways", and when something goes against the grain.. Watch out!!
Only speaking for me, myself, and I, I want to always stay "young at heart". Ready to try something new, so forth and so on. Don't want no mold to set in here!!
Just my opinion.. That is one of the reasons I don't hang with OLD FOLKS!!
