Invitation to a historic Century ride in Las Vegas
https://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/vivabikevegas/
I like living in Vegas and it not for the gambling. Vegas Valley is trying hard to expand off strip entertainment activities. Cycling is improving dramatically.
After 9/11 the government restricted access over Hoover Dam and began construction of this new Bridge 1/4 mile south of Hoover Dam. It is a mechanical marvel. My teenaged kids all swear that we will never drive that bridge.
Anyway, here is a chance to ride the bridge prior to the bridge opening to motorized travel. I am psyched about this century and am shamelessly plugging Vegas in October.
Check your calendars! It should be a blast.

Thanks for posting, but I'll just miss it. We are flying into Albuquerque that weekend and will be in Las Vegas the following weekend for a class reunion. The group will be doing a cruise on the lake when we're there. Should be nice.
I've done a mtn. bike ride in the Red Rocks Canyon in the past. Really pretty area.

We were out that way last month and saw the new bridge. Looks kinda scary to me -- but then I don't do heights.
You can see the bridge in the distance.

Nice pictures. There is a Grand Fondo 3 state ride in November riding from Mesquite to St. George and back first weekend in November. Great time of year to ride in the desert.

I did some riding in Vegas last December. I stayed in a hotel just off the Strip, and tried to get out to Red Rocks a couple of times. The problems with Vegas:
1) too spread out - it takes forever to get anywhere
2) the traffic lights just take forever! You're waiting at the intersection for about two minutes before you get the green, then you get to the next stoplight one or two long blocks away, and it's another two minutes. There doesn't appear to be any synchronizatin for cars or bikes! I make it a rule to stop and wait at all red lights, but for Vegas I was very tempted to make an exception!

Vegas traffic lights are horrible. We encourage people to bring their taxes or at least balance their checkbooks if you have to drive across town. There are some great trails that get you out of traffic and let you just ride. Check out these links. Next February you might like our weather over Vancouver.

Wow, a big new concrete arch bridge. Those were common years ago, but now many bridges are all steel.
From this link:
(check out the steps and ladder to get to the temporary platform. That arch is BIG.
