RCK and I started out this morning to do a 40+ mile Saturday road ride. We planned to ride from Monroe to Brodhead and back. At some point before we got to Brodhead, we decided to make the ride my birthday ride (7/11/1953) and add on a bit of trail riding when we got back to Monroe.

The ride to Brodhead took us over some scenic Green County back roads. We stopped for coffee and scones at a shop in downtown Brodhead. The trip back to Monroe had us dealing with a quarting headwind in several places. We got back to town after riding about 43 miles. With 14 miles to go for my 57, we decided to head south on the Badger Trail for an out and back trip to Clarno.

After a quick stop at home for a water bottle refill and bicycle change, we were on our way to Clarno via the Badger State Trail. When we got to Clarno, we decided to continue on south to Orangeville, Illinois as this extra mileage would give us a metric century for the day. When you cross the stateline the trail becomes the Jane Addams Trail. When we turned around in Orangeville we had the wind at our backs for a change.

When we finally pulled back into my driveway we had logged 67 miles. All in all, a great way to spend a beautiful summer Saturday.

Happy 4th of July, you all.
