An accountant would reply by closing the blinds, locking the door, and ask in a hushed voice, "what do you want your average speed to be?"

Besides, this is for 50+'rs, and our answers will likely be more mature.

I ride a MTB so my average is 8. There was a Cheesecake Factory across the street from PF Chang's so I did some serious carbo loading for tomorrow. How fast should I try to ride tomorrow Capt. Dnvr?

10 miles at 20 mph = 30 minutes
10 miles at 10 mph = 60 minutes
tptal time is 90 minutes
total distance is 20 miles
Average speed is 13.333mph
What do I win? anything. I think I am not the first to guess this though.

You win Lance Armstrong's jersey on this year's TdF, the one where he fell off the bike and lost all that time averaging 13.33 mph.

But that will be one of the last Armstrong jerseys of the TdF so it could go for millions on E-Bay! LOL

That's what you get for living so far from civilization. If you Google "Pies are square" you'll find a reference for Gina's in Wilton, Wisconsin along the Elroy - Sparta Trail. I know that's a long way from Northern California, but it'll be worth the ride. Be sure to allow some extra time for the ride home.

Retro: I'll have to add that to my list of places to visit when I retire and take up touring semi-full time!
P.S. There ARE some uncivilized people around here (mostly in pickups with wide mirrors).

Remember the problem from jr. high school:
A train leaves New york heading west .....
Another train leaves LA heading east .....
If bike A is heading east and bike B is heading west then they will crash somewhere between Kansas City and Denver.
