Two close calls in as many days.

N+1 that is

I've been dreaming of owning a Penny Farthing for most of my adult life. I came real close about 20 years ago, but it wasn't meant to be. I was even closer yesterday.

I could have rode away with a brand new reproduction bike for the mere sum of $450. This bike was at an antique dealer on consignment for a photographer who only used it as a prop. Alas, my 'Danger Sense' was tingling. Sure enough, close inspection of the machine revealed that the back wheel tracked off-center from the front wheel. That combined with a headbadge in asian symbols scared me off.

I suspect it was manufactured by...https://www.tallbike.com/tall/index.html#

I'm kinda hoping to stumble into one manufactured by...https://www.hiwheel.com/...

So when I got home I followed my usual ritual of scanning through the local craigslist ads and saw a 3 spd. Iverson (I think) for only $30. It seemed to be in excellent condition. Having a date with my bride lined up for the evening, a night at the Drive In Theater, I opted to postpone persuing the ad for a day.

It must have been in good condition because it had sold before we got back home.

So my stable has not increased in size this week, and the marriage is still peaceful (for now).

Summer nights at the drive-in - those were the days. Piling 28 friends into the car for the $2-per-car, or maybe going with just one special friend.

Sunny Fla is 83 degrees with 95% humidity at night, which makes it not so fun. But upstate NY in August - no place better for a night at the drive-in.

The nice thing about drive-in movies is that no one cared (or noticed) what the movie was. I didn't know any still existed.

Most have long since disappeared, but we still have several to choose from around here. It's become a big deal for family entertainment, so much so that some new drive-ins are popping up, though they're not as nice as the older ones.

I have four within about an hour of my house; a double screen, a triple screen and two quad screen drive ins.

Two of the daughters will be in town next week and Silver Lake Drive-in is on their list of things to do!

That looks a lot like my first marriage, but I met her in a bar where my band was playing.

To get back on topic: If you're looking to do an endo, then an ordinary is the way to go.

I can appreciate that you may want to be an authentic wheelman, though.

I've gone up and over so many times it almost seems natural.

I hope to visit my oldest in L.A. next June. I may have to swing north to S.F. and visit Ridable Bicycle Replicas as long as I'm out that way. They ain't cheap but hey, I only get to go this way once....I think.
