Having returned to cycling five weeks ago after many years of being a coach potato, I proudly reached the first 200 miles on my new bike yesterday. I think of it as having ridden two centuries, in just 5.5 weeks! Woohoo!

Anyway, now that I'm an ex-smoker for 1.5 years, a cyclist who is up to about 50 miles a week, and a guy who's starting to lose weight, I'm wondering at what point will I become simply irresistable to women?

I just want to be prepared is all I'm saying.

Welcome to the club. I bought a new Trek 1200 last year and it just sat there getting dusty. I always had an excuse as why not to ride it. I finally got off the couch and started riding the first of June. I now have nearly 400 miles on it. I bought a heart rate monitor now all I have to do is figure out how to use it. I guess we will be simply irresistable to women any time now.

DG...As time goes by, what you will find irresistable is your credit card as you find more and more hardware that you simply can't ride without. Figure you'll irresistably need that new Madone by next spring...or maybe, if more traditional, that restored Colnago. Not to mention a cycling vacation.

Maybe what really gets irresistable is your own confidence as you watch your performance steadily climb and former riding challenges become common activities.

Hi Gary

I don't know about irresistable, but just being out on a bike adds a little sex appeal. If you don't believe it, smile and wave to a few random ladies as you speed by. Then compare their reactions to what ya would normally get if you were on foot or in a car. Uh, the results are invalid if you try it while you're huffing & puffing up a hill though...

Well, I've been back in the saddle for 4 years and have lost 50 pounds and am up to 5000+ miles per year. GrannyGear, I even have a new MADONE but the only thing I've been irresistable to lately has been dogs!! Not sure I can help answer your question........maybe it is an eternal quest!!! Good luck with yours.

And terrific to hear you're riding again!!!

Since I've been riding, I'm irresistable...to mosquitos.

Seriously, I'm dieting too. Frequently, I slip up and gorge. To get myself back on track, I always ask where I'd be if I hadn't been dieting and working out. The answer paints an immediate before/after picture in my mind. As far as women madly craving your body, think of how much all's improved since you changed around your life. Certainly, you're more of a prospective girl toy than if you hadn't done so.

Most importantly, congratulations on quitting smoking!!!

About 5 minutes after shaving your legs.

Get yourself a Tandem, go to the Gym and mention that you need a co-rider, Not certain it was me that was irresistable or the thought that they could have an easy ride. Problem was, the only one to take up my offer was 6 ft tall, weighed about 240lbs so to balance the bike she had to go on the front. She may have been big, she may have been powerfull, but all I saw was 240 lbs crammed into lycra. Glad when Stuart came back to riding.

Thank you Stapfam. I'll spend a long time trying to get rid of that mental image.

Hey! Something is working! I just took a call from an old friend whom I see infrequently; she's single, she has a bike, she wants to start riding again. She's going to take it to her LBS for a tune-up and then we're going to do a ride or two.

You know, there IS something to this biking thing!

Stick several $100 bills half way out of your bicycle shorts that should do the trick. It is called trolling.

When you can spell. Many women tell me that a good speller gets them hot.
