Anyone going?
I went 2 years ago but had to skip it due to other obligations last year. Not looking forward to the climb up Mt Richey but I'll make it. This will also be my first century this season.

I'm going with a friend who needs a registration. Do you know of anyone who registered and isn't going to use their registration?
I've been very intimidated about preparing for this ride. Have been hill conditioning for 3 months in hopes of being ready. Now, it's just a matter of conquer or be conquered;0)
Have a great ride. I'll be on a blue Bianchi cyclocross bike. What will you be riding?

My brother and I rode it in last year-saw NealH and JimF there too. I really enjoyed the route-in spite of the misty conditions and a couple miles of heavy chip seal. Hope to get back again one day but cannot make it this year.

I can certainly understand why it's a show and go with that nice climb at the start!

I've been up to Thurmont twice this summer to do hill repeats on the first climb out of town. Did a 60 mile ride on Sunday and have done a few 50 milers this summer.
Sorry don't know anyone who has a spare registration.

Too far away for me, but it looks like an interesting ride!

With 7,400 feet of climbing over 103 miles it sounds similar (on paper) to the Cool Breeze Century we have out here in Ventura, CA.

Hi seemunkee,

Good to hear you're riding the Death Valley Double. Most of the 50+ crowd seem to think that we double century riders are crazy. Do you come out to CA for doubles very often?

I'm not riding Death Valley this year, but will be doing White Mountain, Knoxville, Bass Lake and Solvang Fall doubles to add to the four I've already ridden this year (Hemet, Davis, Eastern Sierra and Grand Tour).

Please write a report on the Death Valley Double and post it here so we can read about your adventures!

I'll be there this year, as its a nice event and the route is really not that difficult - other than that nagging climb right out of the starting gate. No "warm up" miles on this route . But its historic and eminently enjoyable.

This will be my first double. Did the single out there two years ago and instantly was disappointed in myself for not doing the double. Hell, I'm going to aim for the 508 in a few years.

Been off this forum this year - life got in the way. But I'll be there for the 4th consecutive year. Not in top shape but will do the century. Sorry you won't be there Joe - I'll keep an eye out for you Neal. I'll be riding a blue Giant TCR, easier to find my as I'll be wearing my pink "maglia rosa" Pantani jersey. It's the one time of the year I wear this gift from an Italian friend, I figure that Pantani might inspire me to climb just a little faster. So far it hasn't worked but pink keeps me in touch with my feminine side.

Yah, going. I'm gradually building up miles after nagging IT band issues (long story, not a good one), but hope to ride the century route to the 65 mile bailout point and then....evaluate. I'll probably bail and call it a metric century, and save some energy and knee health for the Backroads Century next weekend. I've done CWC twice before, and it is a really nice pretty ride.

I'm also not going to ride and just sent Spokie a PM. Did the same last year and this is what they told the woman I gave my registration to:

"The registrant that cannot attend should send an email to the person that will be using the registration stating they can use the registration. That person should bring a copy of the email to registration. They will check in using their own name but state they are riding in place of.... They will be asked to fill out a registration form, sign the release and provide emergency contact information."

What a fabulous day for a ride. mid to upper 70s, clear skys and light winds. There were some headwinds the last 15 miles and while they weren't particularly strong, they were most unappreciated. I felt good on the ride and while the climbs were tough the one that really hurt was the 12% at mile 70.
Sitting around at the end eating a sandwich I see a friend walk by that I had no idea he was there. He did the 75 mile route but it would have been nice to ride with him for a while.
I saw booby c's pink jersey by the ice cream truck at the end but was tied up taking to my friend and when I looked around again he was gone. Sorry Bobby, but perhaps we can get together and ride sometime.

This was a tough ride. Sad to say I got sagged out at 50 miles. UGH. Due to my tour next year, I won't be able to ride it, but hope to succeed in riding the century in 2012. Thanks to Chris and Jim, for making sure we had a registration, one way or another. There was no problem using it, we simply didn't tell them that my companion wasn't the person registered.
