I quit!!
I have a couple of road bikes for sale...obviously the cycling gods don't think I should be riding anymore.
Because of a crazy work load all of a sudden I have only gotten 10 rides in this month, I usually would have at least 16. Then since the 11th I've had three flats, a broken spoke, a broken chain and now two, count them, TWO broken chain breakers!!
Two flats in three days was getting irritating, but nothing I couldn't deal with. Then on Friday afternoon I get a chance to ride a quick 25 miles and 12 miles in...click click click...broken rear spoke. The wheel wasn't too far out of true so In nurse it home the 4 miles and call it a day. Saturday I go out with our club on my back-up bike and break a chain 20 miles in as I was attempting to mount the bike, clipped in on the left push down and ready to throw a leg over the saddle and SNAP! I find myself falling rather ungracefully in the street. Luckily one of the club riders was able to help me with a ride back.
Yesterday afternoon spent running errands and getting a new chain. Plans for the evening didn't allow me to put it on until this morning and in the process I break the flange that holds the chain on my good chain breaker but my cheap one does the job. Get it on, looks good...time to change and get in some miles.
Go out to the bike and squeeze the tire and what do I see? A goathead staring back at me. I have no idea how I missed this while putting the chain on, but I did. Anyway I give it a tug and sure enough, it's leaking. Change ANOTHER flat and then head up the street. I only go 400' and it slips a tooth. Hmmm, that's not good so I stop and look down...the piece of crap Shimano link didn't hold so the chain is coming apart. Turn around and get home, get my cheap chain breaker and try to push the link back in only to bend the tip of the tool...now I'm P.O.'d
It takes a lot to get me this frustrated, and I can't recall EVER having a string of problems like this before. In the last 15 months I've racked up almost 8,000 miles, done all the maintenance, and not had any issues...then suddenly it all turns to crap.
I think I'm finished venting...and Robert Foster I'm sure is looking at Craigslist for my Madone...which he may find if my mood doesn't improve.

Now, explain to us why this is worse than, say, being in an iron lung.
PS: Not unsympathetic, just putting it into perspective.

Yeah, I'm generally a "glass half full" kind of guy, but I was a little frustrated. I'll be heading off to church here in a few and I will be thankful for what I've been given...that's for sure.

Glad you took it in the manner in which it was intended.
And after church, find a bike that works and go ride it.

You gonna eat that?
Sell your bikes and GTF off BF.
Or get back on the bike. You know you want to.

Look on the bright side. I didn't take your picture till after you were standing. I'll bet Huntress didn't tell you that when were were riding back to get her truck I noticed her rear wheel was not on straight. At a stop light I pulled up next to her and loosened the Skewer. the wheel slipped into a straight position. But for the next three blocks she acted like she was riding uphill. I forgot to check her brake pads and when the wheel straightened out the left one was pushed up against the wheel. It was a quick fix but she would have been back with the truck a lot sooner if I hadn't "fixed" her wheel till we got to the truck.
When you put Craig's list don't bother putting down your phone number, I have it already.

Sometimes when it rains, it pours. Dry yourself off and take a deep breath. It will get better.

Karmic. Sounds karmic.
If you remember the existential investigators from I *heart* Huckabees --
I'm a karmic physician. Tell me what you've done to bring this upon yourself and I will tell you what you need to do to atone for it.
If you have any spare change, I could also sell you some karma credits.

And just out of curiosity, where do you get your karma credits from? We need good karma jobs here in the states, so if you're selling offshore karmas I'm not buying.

I don't know about the iron lung, but how would you feel if you were trying to make it through the Tour de France.

These things usually turn completely around when they have run their course. Suggest you go out and buy a couple of lottery tickets real quick.... just in case.

I hope you will have good luck very soon. Maybe all the bad luck will make way for a long string of good luck.
If you can get a good ride in on the bicycle, I think all the frustration will vanish. I find much inner peace when I ride.
