N-1

I'd just found a nice old 90's "ridged" MTB and added a upgrade or two from the "parts bin" and put together a nice little "utility/back up" bike to "finally" get to the coveted N+1 status. Well after riding it over to see my Step-Son and grandaughter, I asked him about his bicycle and if he and the G-daughter, (who we'd picked up a used coaster brake bike for ealier), had been riding. He looked kinda sheepish and told me that the "bike" he had, really wasn't his, it was a friend who'd loaned it to him long term and had taken it back. So after riding the bike home, got to thinking he's like my wife and I, NO CAR! Well I called him up and offered him the N+1 bike and he stated, he'd LOVE to have it. Added a few more "accessiores" (painners, pump, lock, water bottles, tire gage, etc.) and he will come get it this weekend!

LOL, I kinda feel sorry for the bike, it's gona get a LOT more workout with him than it would have with me! So I'm now scraping up my pennies and looking for a "N+1" again, think I might look for a "older Road Bike", (hopefully STEEL) and see what all you roadies are so happy about!

Good deeds deserve good rewards. Looking forward to seeing your new old steel road bike.

I have a Proteus, late 70's in excellent shape frameset. Lugged 531, flat crown fork, repainted white. Down tube shifter bosses added, 1 bottle mount. Long reach brakes which I have, Shimano dual pivot. 55mm top tube. Nice steel bike frame that hangs in the garage.

I'm confused.

Are you offering this frame to bjjoondo or just telling us about a bicycle in your garage?

B J, There's nothing else you could do, IMHO.

When Santa brought my kids new bikes I'd have them find a home for their old bikes, to kids that really needed them. My kids liked that (maybe learned a lesson, too) and one family that got a pair of them then passed the bikes along in the same manner. Something I'd hoped for.
