Geezer doing Back to Back Doubles

I did the Bass Lake Double Oct 9, it was tough 202.5 with 10,500í of climbing. Most of the climbing was between 80-135 miles.

Fast forward to this past Saturday Oct 16, Iím back on the bike doing the Solvang Fall Double. I ended up with 202 miles and 10,900í of climbing. Itís tough ride with a climb in the center portion that has pitches between 12-16% and 2 miles of dirt road at the top. In the evening when the sun went down the fog rolled in. It was the wet soupy kind that was almost like riding in the rain. It was dark, raining, the road were jet black and slick and cars going by at 65 mph.

I did finish and I was tired. It had been a long day, 14:08 on the bike and 16:10 on the course. This was the 8th double Iíve done for the year and I have one more to do, Death Valley Fall Double Oct. 30.

I'll take your picture down at Death Valley. Keep your smile on, you never know when.

Congrats on the double centuries and the good health that goes with them.

No, I didn't do Solvang. I was relaxing with my wife at our cabin in the mountains, doing some mountain bike riding and not even touching the road bike.

Good job Dante! I did back to back with the White Mountain and the Knoxville Staff doubles this year, and I ended the year with seven.

Yep, I'm flying out and my buddy from Seattle is driving down to meet me. This is the first double for both of us.

No worries PAlt,

Here in CA the CAL Triple Crown has lots of awards already. Just another part of riding doubles . . .

RAAM? Not me. I did Paris-Brest-Paris in '91 and that was so brutal it burned me out for long distance riding for 12 years! And P-B-P is peanuts compared to RAAM.

So no, absolutely no RAAM for me. I would maybe do Furnace Creek 508 as part of a team, but not solo.

Well done. Sounds epic! Good luck for the 30th October double. I'm hoping to be back in the USA for some more crazy riding myself in 2011. What do you suggest? I've just done my own triple challenge which consisted of 1) all 8 stages of the Tour of Cal 2) Coast to coast across the USA and 3) the Cent Cols Challenge..... looking for some way to top it in 2011... not sure that'll be possible though!

You can start by looking at the California Triple Crown website, and thanks.
