Just a thought

I note how the ad banners on this site respond to the dominant themes of the thread, such as if someone says "I'm getting over hip surgery" we'll see a bunch of orthopedic ads, or if someone says "Wow, that's gay" the banners will have ads for travel clubs that cater to *****exuals, and so forth.

One of the frequent banner ads on the 50+ site is "Send us a picture of you now and we'll show you a picture of what you'll look like when you get old".

You know, I already know what I look like when I get old, and I get to see that every day when I look at myself in the mirror. For free.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a service for us where we send in a current photo and they show us what we should have looked like when we were younger?

Am I thinking too hard about this?

Yes.

Ask your parents or siblings. They'll have loads of pictures, few of them flattering, showing your clothes choices, hairstyle and skin condition from years ago. And it's free, and once opened the flow is ceaseless.

But, though, influencing the appearance of auto-ads - here's a new avenue of fun.

Launching threads about 'riding bikes in taffeta'. 'Meerschaum pipes and Trek Madones'. Blimey

I've never done what I should have, especially when I was younger.

One of the recurring and dominant themes of these boards is PIE. So why haven't we seen multiple advertisements for pie?

Meerschaum pipes and Trek Madones....if these words show up in this thread enough, maybe some pipe outlets will show up. I hope they don't feature PVC.

As far as what I looked like: I still have my wedding album from 31 years ago so I can see what the best I could do was. But would we pay good money to see what we should have looked like? And would any youngster pay good money to see what they're look like when they're old?

I do not understand these things.

The only ad I see is one line of red lettering across the top for Rudy Project gear. Did I just jinx myself the in same manner as mentioning the last time one flatted?

You can tape the old photos of yourself on your monitor over the ads. Problem solved. I prefer the bobble doll in the grass skirt.

Those of us who actually PAY to support this site do not get to enjoy the various ads you allude to, so the question becomes irrelevant for us. "Just sayin'"

For example, us po' folks who would rather spend our $12 a year or what ever it is on tubes or blinkies are seeing this next to TWL post about online marketing strategies in action:

You know, my wife was a babe when she was younger (I didn't marry her for her looks; I married her for her money). A site where I could send photos of my wife and have them, say, perform some minor cosmetic alterations? I might pay good money for that.

Let's hope Mrs. Link doesn't read this. Do you have a comfortable couch?

Voila!

Working for an advertising company as I do, it seems unsporting to pay to have the ads removed.

My wife hates all things cycling. So let's just keep this little slip amongst ourselves, shall we?

I like the ads, other than the slow load time when I browse with my IPhone. I like learning where there's a get-away in Jamaica than I can go to be alone with my partner.

Let's keep this little slip amongst us, shall we?

Learn the difference between "than and "then" and I won't tell a soul.

Reminds me of the story about 2 guys discussing tattoos. First guy says, "I'm going to get a tattoo of a beautiful woman's face." Second guy says,"Where are you going to have the tattoo put?"
First guy says "on my wife's face".
