Sky King

So the bride and I were out of town together a couple of weeks ago.

We took advantage of the free Buffet Breakfast offered at the Hotel where we stayed. The decorating theme in the restaurant was Antique children's toys. The food wasn't anything to write home about but the decor was awsome. The toys were all fully functional, full sized, reproductions and we sat next to this one........

(These are readily available on the internet for less than $250, if I had grandchildren I would buy one for them to ride on.)

Cranky was happy.

Why wait for the grandchildren--That is a work of art and needs hanging on the wall.

And you never know- We shrink with age and become unsteady on our feet. You might need something like this in a few years time.

Me too.
When I grow up I want to be the one who rights all the wrongs in the world that I see.
If anyone titles a thread "The Lone Ranger" - please don't disappoint.

I got SkyKing's autographed photo at a county fair when I was a kid. It was probably in Sioux Falls.

If I did that - I think I have 7 grandkids and great-grandkids in that age bracket. Not going to happen.

That's what I thought. "Sky King" was a staple of Saturday morning kids TV in New England. Don't forget:

- Ripcord
- Whirlybirds
- Highway Patrol. Entire first season is posted for your viewing pleasure at Hulu.com.
Watch for an episode that features a very young Clint Eastwood as a motorcyclist.

Cool looking trike though.

Me too.

Even now, like 50 years later, if I hear a Beech or Cessna twin zooming over head, I want to blurt out "Out of a clear blue western sky... it's Sky King!"

PS: I had a giant crush on Penny.

1950s - Nashville TN, Hillsboro Village Theatre
Saturday morning movie
News reel, cartoon (why do Heckel & Jekel pop into my mind (like for 1st time in forever)), then the main attraction (usually a western).
10 cents and sometimes Dad would give me an extra nickel for a bag of popcorn.

Just to keep it "on-topic", we rode our bikes the 2 miles each way.

Not a Beech;
Cessna T-50.

Looks like but was a Cessna T-50 Bobcat. And yes, the Cessna didn't have the same sound as the twin Jakes.

Thanks to the Internet Archive and old time radio collectors, I've discovered Sgt Preston and his dog King. Radio drama was nearly dead when I was growing up. I envy you older posters for having such fun programs to listen to.

I remember being bucktoothed and skinny, writing fan letters to Sky's niece, Penny. I wish I had a pencil thin mustache, then I could solve some mysteries, too.

Shimagnolo, You're quite right and worse, worse yet, I've been corrected on that point once before! Live, learn, forget and relearn.

Re-read the thread. Guess after my kid time the show was on TV. Didn't know that. Guess a person learns something new every day.
