Hip fracture and repair

I am a 79 year-old runner/cyclist from Huntsville, AL. I recently crashed my bike and suffered an interchanteric hip fracture. This took place a little over two months ago. My recovery, according to my surgeon who made the repair, has been quite remarkable. I would like to share this with other athletes, because it is hard to find much online pertaining to recovery details. What is there consists mainly of horror stories. I would like for other athletes to realize that it is not necessary that that be the case.

I started on a stationary, recumbent bike just under 4 weeks after surgery. Started on the road on my mountain bike in about 5 weeks. Started on the road on my road bike in about 6 weeks, after changing out the clipless pedals. My cycling felt essentially normal, except for my conditioning, early on. It is my running which is giving me trouble. It has been about 9 weeks now since my surgery and all I can so is a very slow jog, and running is probably considered my forte. I hold many running records. I wish I could hear from someone with a break similar to mine, who has tried to make a running comeback. I appreciate your asking your question. Thanks.
