Father and son ride to the beach
My father, around the age of 56, joined me in a trip to the beach. The round trip totaled over 70 miles, and we spent over 4 hours on the road. Unfortunately, a reckless biker wasn't paying attention and ran into my father while we were stopped on the side of the road for a rest stop, but minimal damage was done. Glad to say, my dad has something to brag about to our friends and relatives now haha.

I'm around your father's age and I'm going to try to get my college-age son to ride to the beach with me this summer. Then he'll have something to brag about to our friends and relatives.

I'm glad you guys had a good time, except for the reckless rider bit; I've had occasion to go on centuries and such with my hs aged kids, and I do appreciate the time spent with them, especially when I realize that not a lot of parent/child combos are on any given ride.

Father - son rides are my favorite. Glad you and your father and you get time to share together.

i'm 53, gave my son my old road bike when i got my Cervelo and we ride together a couple times a month. Or should i say i chase him around a couple times a month. At 6'3", 160 lbs he has quite the advantage over me, like 70lbs!!

Hope I can ride that far when I'm 56.........wait, that was five years ago.
Our 23 year old son took up cycling last summer (on my last remaining upright bike) and rode with my wife and I on more than a few rides, the longest was one day of the Hilly Hundred. |
My kids are your father's age . . .
