After 1.5 years here, I finally belong.

I've been posting to this forum since August, 2009, but today I'm finally legit, as I am turning 50. I have the membership offer from AARP to prove it.

There's no opportunity to ride my age today, or to ride at all. Too many other obligations. But yesterday I rode 82 blissful miles (with 5000 feet of climbing) in the driftless region of Wisconsin, so I think I'm covered.

When I arrived on this forum, I had never ridden more than 25 miles. Even though I was technically too young, this seemed to be a tolerant place for beginners with low skills. And it was. Thanks, everybody.

Congrats on the last long ride of your 40s. Looking forward to hearing about your birthday ride when you get a chance.

Oh rats, you mean yesterday's ride doesn't count? I'm not going to have the opportunity to top 50 miles again until next weekend. That seems like bending the rules pretty far.

Was there an "amnesty day" recently? I don't remember one, you should probably buy a new bike as punishment for your indiscretion.

OK, I guess if the rider of the Amgen ToC get a day off because of snow, we can allow a birthday ride to occur later. Congrats on making it this far in life!

Happy birthday. They used to say life begins at 40, but, like they say, 50 is the new 40.

Yeah, I've already got the referral, but somehow I haven't got around to making the appointment. Sometime this summer, I suppose.

How many posts?

We occasionally tolerate postings from illegal ageians, but there's a pie assessment, per post, that's levied.

I just might do that. Today before my regular Tuesday hill-climbing ride, a riding buddy gently suggested that my regular ride (A 2010 Trek 2010) was really best suited for a rain bike and that my riding accomplishment was sufficient so that I should upgrade to something a little sportier. He suggested an Orbea Orca. Not that i'm susceptible to peer pressure or anything, but he seems like a sensible man.

A belated Happy Birthday and a warm welcome to 50+, as said, the best forum around. Looking forward to more posts from you and some ride reports, and don't forget the pie!

And a Happy Birthday to Mrs. K, too.

I agree! Just when the weather turns nice and the flowers begin to bloom, we have a birthday, as if Mother Nature is celebrating our births!

Happy Birthday 16ers!

If I'm not mistaken, May 16th is Hermes birthday, too!
