Hot?

This was about an hour ago, the official temp was "only" 97 but that was in the shade not about 2 feet above the asphalt.

It was 94F when I got home from today's ride and it wasn't even 1 p.m. I think the "official" high was around 99F.

Have you ever even SEEN this side of the mountains?? Or did you just flunk geography? Avg rainfall here is 10" a year, not the 40+" they get in Portland. And according to the chamber of commerce, we have "300 sunny days a year".

Sorta an after the fact observation but I hit what felt to be a bonk point about 5-6 miles after this picture; early in terms of time and mileage from my usual. Happily it was only a couple of miles from my house and on the way back through a shady area, so I didn't have to tough it out for any length of time. Good thing because I felt listless and like crap the rest of the day. I think I pushed my heat tolerance envelope pretty hard.

Yesterday was my 8th day in a row of riding, time to take a day off. I'm installing shelving in the house today. Heading for 100 again today (and tomorrow).

High's here are going to be in the 90's for the rest of summer (tomorrows supposed to be 95F) and humidity (which is the real killer) will be pretty much always above 50%, usually closer to 70-80%. Just get over it and either bring more water and HTFU or get up earlier and ride before the sun comes up. Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but if was always 70F, 0% Humidity, and easy; everyone would ride.

Warming up nicely here. 44 C today, which is close to as hot as it gets, or within 4 degrees.

But, it's still only about 50% humididity. In a month, that'll be 85% humidity. That's when it stings, like someone throws a pan of water on the sauna stove.

Personally, I prefer hot to cold. California skiing spouse, the reverse. She's off to Russia for the summer!
