My longest ride yet...

35 miles to the seawall and back. My new Specialized Sectuer is a real nice ride.

Bravo! Nice ride on a nice ride.

Way to go. I've gotten very fond of my Secteur. As the miles begin to mount up you will want to pay close attention to how your body responds. At 72 y.o. I find recovery, after what for me is a long ride, takes longer than I would have expected. Nevertheless, the body is very adaptable so that this year I'm riding somewhat harder and recovering somewhat better.

Congrats! You are really advancing quickly. Keep it up.

Just started riding myself and did 10 miles yesterday. 35 is quit an accomplishment. I am looking to do a 25 mile ride tomorrow, if weather does not get too hot

kh6idf 07-15-11 06:51 PM

Excellent! Hope you had a tailwind on the way back.

JanMM 07-15-11 08:23 PM

WTG!

I'd be plumb wore out if if I rode to the seawall and back.

billydonn 07-15-11 08:33 PM

Good job... but don't think you always have to ride longer to improve. A bunch of those 20-35 milers will do you a world of good.

Riding a nice, comfortable bike makes all the difference in the world. Great job on the distance PR.

Just remember to eat and drink on longer rides, especially if it's hot. And don't forget to post if your 25-miler is a PR (personal record). All new records should be celebrated with pie. :)

Bad ride-Must be the bike.

No stop for Pie. Any bike that does not stop for Pie needs re- training.

Congratulations!

A Secteur rider came out with me in February and was exhausted by a hilly 32 mile local ride. Last weekend, he came close to dropping me on a 70 mile ride with 6,500 ft of hills ... It is possible to make a lot of progress in 6 months if you stick at it - keep up the good work!

I looked at a 2009 Specialized Secteur Sport two weeks ago, today I am looking at a 2010 Terez with quite a few extras. The Secteur was 54cm, the Terez is 56. I will decide which one fits better and see which one I bring home today!

Oh, and so far my PB as an adult is 20 miles on the Katy Trail in Mo. (really the ONLY ride I have done as an adult!) It was with three other friends, I was on a borrowed MTB that did NOT fit at all. This was last summer. SO I am HOPING that 20 miles will be a piece of cake on my new RB! That ride took us something like 1:50.... no speed record for sure! LOL

The difference will be like racing a Unimog against a finely tuned Ferrari on the highway. MTB's are brutal on the road....not sure why so many folks do that. :D

I'm a newbie to the forum and biking, taking it up seriously in April but routinely doing a 20 miler weekly...so a 35 looks like both a stretch and accomplishment! :thumb:

Awesome! Before you know it, you'll be posting about your century rides. The best feeling in the world for me is doing a ride that surpasses my best ride. I'm sure you felt the same way when you went further than your last ride.
