Have you ever broken the speed limit on a bicycle.

There are some rules for this, you must break the speed limit by at least a single unit, so if it's in km/h it must be at least 1km/h, if it's in MPH it must be at least 1MPH. You are only allowed one option, so pick the best one.

Speed limit in our neighborhood is 20mph. I broke the limit this evening: 22mph. Catch me if you can, copper!

They just put 5mph markings in my apartment complex driveways. I exceed that daily. It's the only place I'm likely to break the limit with the conditions in choice #3. The other two I've done in a few locales.

58 mph in a 55 zone . . . . down hill on our tandem. I was even using the brake. . . a little. My wife is still pissed off at me about it, she says if it happens again she'll never get back on the bike.

In my defense, it was my only lapse in judgement as a good captain.

No, I haven't broke it yet. The fastest I have gone so far is 35mph on the downhill side of a big bridge. I wasn't pedalling only coasting, I had plenty more room to go faster but I chickened out at the 35mph mark and pulled the brakes. Maybe nest time I'll try to hit 40 or maybe even 50mph.

Number of roads in my area are posted at 25. Managed 27/29 a few times with a bit of a down hill boost. And a couple times I did 17 thru a 15 mph school zone. And without a helmet. I'm a bad boy.

Yes, in fact when much younger, I passed a state trooper going downhill at 50+ MPH in a 35 mph zone. I was pulled over, not for a ticket or warning, but he wanted to know what I was riding. He was a cyclist too and I was riding a fully chromed bike that had been stripped of all decals and markings.

Need to be able to check multiple boxes. I did the first two on my last ride. Uphill into a headwind is the only one I can't remember busting, but probably have sometime somewhere under some condition. Have I ever driven a motor vehicle and not exceeded the speed limit? Probably not, except perhaps for some very short drives.

Yes, almost every day in 25 MPH zones but I don't (yet) have a citation to prove it. In the car I actually obey residential limits but early morning rides make full speed ahead all too tempting.

A cop threw me out of a local park for exceeding the speed limit, 25 mph flat road. Really startled the person in the car that I passed. Cop saw that and pulled me over and told me to leave. Now cars are no longer allowed in the park and bicycles are only allowed 3 days per week.

That is what gives the rest of us a bad name. I only startled old lady drivers.

I that I do not ride a road bike (hybred guy) my 38c's got me to 25-28 in a 30 before I chickened and I have got my bike to 22.2 with 45c's. I want to get the guy at the LBS that I had tune up my bike after it had sat in the garage for 15-20 years for putting the 45's on it; on the other hand he did notice that the crank had been recalled and got me the replacement for that! A trek 720! I stil wonder if my Specialized has a recall!!

Yes, in 10 or 15 mph areas. There's even a 10 mph sign on the speed bump down the road from the house.

The speed limit on the MUP I ride to work is 15MPH. This morning, heading to work, they had one of those "Your Speed Is" radar things parked on the side of the trail. Silly rabbits. Just exactly what do you think 98% of the bikers (including me) did when they saw that thing reading their speed back to them?

So, yes, I broke the speed limit.

Regularly, especially going downhill on our tandem and it is safe (totally smooth roads, no traffic, no blind side roads and no wind). Rode up and down Cadillac Mountain and around Acadia National Park in Maine a couple of years ago. Hit the T-intersection at the bottom of Cadillac Mtn., turned right and continued downhill to go around the island. The road was empty. I think the speed limit was 25, but we were somewhere around 45+. There was a park ranger at the bottom of the grade, shooting people with radar. He just smiled as we went by and gave us a thumbs up. Obviously a bike rider.
What a beautiful ride.

Only once that was officially recorded on my speedometer. Normally I'll make my bike brakes sing if I feel if I'm getting anywhere close to some of my area's posted speed limits.

We hit 56 on our tandem near Mt SAC. Not something we tried to do and hope no to do again.

56 mph in a 45 mph zone. We didn't pedal or try to gain speed. Tandems are just fast on the DH.

Have you ever broken the speed limit on a bicycle?

76.4 Km/h in a 70 Km/h zone.

I was so completely out of breath when I started the downhill and simply didn't or couldn't do anything other than hang on.

I have gone up to 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. Actually, that was pretty common back in my younger days. I have only taken our tandem over 65 mph a few times, and those were only when my captain was having too much fun to call for the drag brake (we usually run small female captain/large male stoker with stoker handling shifting and drag brake).

Plenty of times on downhills. Best one was on a tandem, we got clocked at 48 mph in a 35 mph zone, light was turning yellow so we jumped on it on a slight downhill. Cop was at the bottom of the hill. We got a warning ticket. IIRC it is still framed and hanging at the LBS

Another memorable time was rolling down Deep Gap Mountain on the Blue Ridge Parkway, 54 mph in 45 mph. Park police caught up to me on the next up hill and told me to take it easy.

I started this, because I was wondering, as I passed a 50km/h sign at 51.9km/h on the mountain bike, if it was a common occurrence. Also wonder how many of us, if we got a ticket from the local constabulary wouldn't want to frame that sucker.

Just yesterday I went 36.9 mph in a 25 coasting downhill. Scared myself and got on the brakes. I can't normally get up a hill big enough to go that fast down hill. Maybe I'm getting stronger.....If it keeps up I may have to buy a helmet and learn to descend.

I also need to be able to check multiple boxes.

I routinely break the 25 mph speed limit on one street on my commute. Flat, no winds necessary.

I can break the 30 mph speed limit on another street of my commute, with a tailwind, on a day with no panniers, and if I make all the lights.

Lots of times. There's an S-curve that's marked 15 mph that I typically take at 20 - and once I took it at 27 mph. Almost lost traction. Downhills - There's one town at the bottom of a hill on DALMAC that usually has me hitting the 35 mph speed zone doing 45, and still doing 35 when the speed limit drops to 25. And there's a few sign sprints around that my riding group does, that have us all going 30-35 mph on flat ground, just as we hit the 25 mph zone at the edge of town. Never broke 55 mph, though... yet!
