Maryland State Flag Jersey

Being from Maryland originally, I was excited when I saw a friend of mine from back home wearing a cycling jersey with the state flag on it. Maryland's state flag is quite visually-striking, and very hard to draw freehand(had to do that once for school).
Like a good buddy he is, he has two and is sending me one

Looks cool. I'd be afraid if they did a Virginia State flag jersey, it would be the confederate "stars and bars"

I agree with Jim F. That flag is best not worn. Only Mississippi retains the "stars 'n' bars" on its state flag. Although I understand the reasoning of the South in 1861, it's hard to be sympathetic the "the cause" of that era in light of the politics of the last 50 years or so. There are happier things to celebrate on our jerseys. Like being "50 Plus".

And the 'African flag'(colors) is/are any better? They sold their own into slavery. Why is it again the media never mentions that?
Guys, you are brainwashed about the South. Growing up in Maryland I was also. Had the same stereotypes beat into me. Been in the South for 20 years now and I can tell you these are some of the most caring and nicest people there are.
I see nothing bad about the confederate flag. It is this area's history. And the history isn't all slavery. Northerners had slaves too. Boston was full of them yet we hear nothing about taking Boston's history from them. Even Salem, Mass revels in their history of killing "witches" and they have a National Witch museum and tours and a huge party on Halloween with people dressed up as witches. Can you imagine if the south embraced slavery like that?
Folks you are beat to death from the media over an AGENDA.
Get to know people and your brainwashing will subside. It has for me.
Thanks.

I think that you misunderstood my post, BBW, because maybe I was a little obtuse intentionally. I fully support recognizing our shared history. I even sympathize with the Southern states of 1861. Had I been a Virginian then, I would have very likely fought for the South. I also take no offense from the rebel flag.

My point is that I wouldn't want to needlessly cause offense to others who might be more sensitive to the subject. The idea is to choose to defer to those who might be weaker (in this sense) than ourselves, so as to not cause others to stumble due to fear, bigotry, hatred, or other emotions.

Thanks for reminding us that there are great people where you live, too.

Yes, I had to very reluctantly give up the proud symbol of independence that I grew up loving because people on one side of the issue decided to associate it with racism and the other side reacted by embracing it as a symbol of racism. I clung to it for a long time because it never did (and still doesn't) mean anything of the sort to me. But when I saw whose side I was on in defending it, I had to give it up. I can't stand alongside racists.

I am still upset with both sides for poisoning my beloved rebel flag.

Personally I liked the "old" Georgia flag design that was replaced in 2001.

I have this GA state flag jersey. Not quite the same is it?

I don't want to throw cold water on this but lets get back to jersey talk and away from politics before this thread is closed or swept off to either Trollheim or P&R.

Dude, if it didn't say Georgia on it, I'd have thought it was the USCG jersey, or something.

I'm thinking about this kit, because I can never find something with Pennsylvania that I'd wear.

If I didn't still feel like a transplanted Illinoisan, I'd consider buying this one. But I've only lived here for 20 years so far.

Edit: And I agree, the MD one is cool.

Sure looks better than the unis the Maryland football team is wearing tonight. Whew! I thought the UGA PowerRanger uniforms were ugly, but this is just a confused mess!

First time I saw the Maryland U new team uniform. I kind of like it. FWIW, Maryland's colors are red and white but also the state flag. (Don't know which came first.) Sometimes they would put the state flag colors in a small spot. Once you get used to the color scheme, it ain't half bad.

BTW, the Virginia jersey would not have the Confederate battle flag. It should be an Amazon standing over a prone tyrant with "Sic Semper Tyrannus" beneath. Gotta love them Amazons!

Yeah those U of Maryland uniforms were pretty awful. But then the UGA uniforms worm against Boise St were pretty bad too. They need to get back to the old classics.

Thankfully the PowerRanger unis worn by UGA was a one time thing. I think Nike paid them a bundle to wear their goofy costumes in the first game. They'll be back in the traditional colors the rest of the season.

You must get easily confused. Best state flag uniform ever. They've also got a tortoise shell motif helmet that they're going to use.

They auctioned off those Maryland uniforms for charity

Was talking to my father-in-law about them (Maryland, class of '52). He said that one of the old football coaches decided that the black and gold uniforms didn't make the players look big, so he put them in the current red and white. I told my father-in-law to tell that one to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
