One Year Later . . .

October 12, 2010 - I had a very much needed Fusion and discectomy at L4-L5.

spondylosis
spondylolisthesis

Prior to that, could not stand up straight, constant pain, had difficulty walking very far, etc., etc. The only thing I could do was ride a road bike (not a mtn bike) due to the stretched-out position. Had a prior year of a variety of physical therapies, all to no avail.

Yesterday -

Did a 5.5 mile hike with no pain and no problems. Riding all different bikes - mtn, 'bent, road.

Yeah!!
========================================================

And here is the hike!!

To make this bicycling related, I plan on mountain biking this trail later, but yesterday I just wanted to hike.

This trail is about 30 miles south of my home, and almost all of the land in the views you see is protected under various open space purchases, zoning, etc. The elevation at Windy Point is 7605 feet. You can see snow-covered Pikes Peak in the background of some of the pics.

The area is Spruce Mountain Open Space

What a beautiful day you had. Is Pike's snow covered year round or has there been some recent coverage?

Not all year 'round. Some recent snow, and supposed to get a good snow the next couple of days. Almost all of our "glaciers" and snowfields melt or are much smaller now.

Thanks. Fortunately the pain went away a year ago.

Great news, DF! I remember when you posted your apprehensions about having the surgery last year. It seems you made the right decision.

Thanks -- those decisions are always difficult and fill one with fear of the future possibilities.

I was born with a similar condition but didn't know it until years after college football, baseball, etc. I was in the army at the time. Reserves actually and got a medical discharge. Had problems until my spine "naturally" fused itself. That was 25 yrs. ago and all is well. Hope it all works out.
