Actually, most people find the posture Joe is proscribing (pelvis rotated forward, so the back is straight) to be better for their back, and there are many people who have eliminated back problems by adopting a lower position. Absent a true medical issue, backs are one of those things that exercise helps.

No argument here. I wasn't disagreeing with the blog post. Just teasing jimmuller.

And I was just teasing the writer and whoever takes that article as appropriate for "the rest of us".

My back has never been comfortable doing either of those subtly different postures for any length of time. But it never stopped me from enjoying a good ride. I'll take the proverbial "French fit" any day. But then, I've never raced anyone since I was, oh, maybe 10, and that was a long time ago.

One note of caution - readers would be advised not to take much of what I post too seriously. An alternate point of view helps keep one's sense of perspective, and a bit of humor with it never hurt either!

I like Friel's preferred position, but I always tend to slide the saddle back when I use it.My back has that shape, but I don't get as aggro as in his pic.
