What's YOUR BMI?

With the help of a cold 3 weeks ago, and a stomach virus last Friday (thanks to the grand kids,) my BMI is finally in the "Normal Range."

5"11, 172 lbs ~ 23.5 BMI.

Anyone else care to share?

24.4 today. BMI is a very imperfect tool.

23.25 as of this morning but I have gained a pound or two from not riding for two weeks due to a nagging chest cold.

6'6' 193# = 22.3 but the calculators just aren't that accurate...

When I was in the military and <5% body fat, my BMI classified me as borderline obese. Haven't paid any attention to it since.

24.

Funny how heated people get about BMI. It's a simple calculation that takes only height and weight into consideration. It's relevant to averages of large populations, but needs appropriate interpretation for individuals.

??? Calculating BMI is pretty simple. The accuracy of any calculator will far exceed the accuracy of the height and weight measurements being input.

I agree with those who dispute its accuracy for individuals. It's painfully obvious that without taking into account bone density, muscle mass and a bunch of other specific factors that it can and often does give an innacurate assessment of body composition.

I'm using mine only as a scale for measuring improvement, not as any kind of absolute indicator of general health. If and when I get to my goal weight, BMI will tossed out the window as far as I'm concerned.

Today:

5'10" 147.5 lbs = 21.2

A little over a year ago:

5'10" 245 lbs = 35.2

I am not quite convinced that it's a meaningless statistic.

I join those who question the measurement at least as applied to individuals.

According to the fancy clinic measurement machine my BMI ranges from 18 some to 19 something. A friend who is leaner and just as fit measures in the low twenties on the same machine.

Holy crap dude... congratulations! This is a perfect example of a very meaningful accomplishment. You should be pretty proud of your efforts.

I'm surprised you got any older after a BMI of 8. At my 6', I'd need to be under 60 lbs. Even a BMI of 14 would put me at an extremely sickly 103.

Look at the elite runners BMI's. 6 is not uncommon.

Vault you're probably talking about body fat percentage, right? BMI is a different index.

I googled this calculater for body fat percentage http://www.healthstatus.com/calculat...age-calculator
