My white saddle is turning yellow?

Everytime I ride my saddle turns yellow. When I'm finished with a ride, I spray it down with a bleach cleaner and it returns to its original color. Ride again... It turns yellow again. Guess I need to switch to a black saddle.

Does anyone else have the same issue? I am totally befuddled...

It comes from being kept in the shade for too long so ride out of the saddle a bit more.

I don't have that issue, because I eschew the color white as a personal choice; I have ONE white shirt, that I rarely wear, and two white t-shirts, also that I rarely wear . . . I have them because they were given to me. There may be some TRIM color on my bike that's white, but you'll never see me choosing it.

Why? White shows dirt faster, and is harder to maintain.

There's probably a trans-color saddle identity group out there who might take objection to your attempt at forcing your saddle into a color category for which it was never really intended by nature. The bleach has got to stop! I once had a Brooks that I tried to force into being comfortable. After a long, frustrating season, I realized it was simply meant to be a crotch cracker.....ands so let it free.

Your right... I'm so ashamed! I may never show my saddle in public again.

Mine turned blue! It came from riding my go everywhere bike in jeans.

Just trying to improve my time... No pee-breaks!!! LOL! Reminds me of one of my favorite movie scenes from Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd Christmas says "Little chilly going thru the pass, huh Harry?"

Nobody else has ever seen a white saddle turn yellow? What the hell? I'm not peeing or crapping my pants, I'm wearing black shorts... I would really like to know what is causing this to happen. In spite of the jest everyone is making of this topic, I really am seeking a straight answer.

Whats that phrase...If you keep doing what you've already done, nothing will change?

You might start be trying to rule things out by trial and error.

For example...

* for one ride try putting a plastic bag over the saddle to eliminate contact between your cycling shorts and the saddle.

* still white?...remove the plastic bag and try some walking shorts (if it turned yellow your issue is the saddle itself)

* still white...something about your riding shorts is running onto the saddle (butt butter, chamois color leaching out, whatever)

These mysteries take time to resolve, but mysteries are kinda fun to solve...dont ya think?

OK....without jest. The inner layer of padding may be leeching a color stain through the leather saddle cover much like stains in your carpet pad return to the carpet after you've "cleaned" the carpet.

OP, Are you using any kind of chamois cream like Chamois Butter? My white saddle on my fixie became blue when one of my son's tried out the bike over Thanksgiving. He had blue jeans on. Bleachy White cleaned it up nicely.

Wow! This thread was quite a ride... I think you guys are right about my shorts, it must be something from my chamois. I don't use butt butter or anything so it stands to reason it must be the shorts. Problem is there my favorite shorts.

Sounds like something is leaching from your riding shorts on to the saddle's covering. Could be the washing detergent or a fabric softener, if you use one. A recent article in one of the trade magazines said not to use dryer sheets or fabric softener on shorts or jerseys mad from the microfibers that are the rule now. If you hand wash with Woolite or another of the super mild detergents they are also not to be used on the new fabrics. Just a thought.
