Happy to be ' Back From The Brink '

Hi again from Australia, the Sun is still Shining !!!!

Just a quick update on my happy life , I have just reached 73 yoa and since I spoke to you all last a funny thing happened to me ....
I was out riding with my similar aged friends you know not fast just cruising and all of a sudden my throat clogged up and I couldn't Breathe properly, and I had to stop. I rested for a while and tried again.... no good, so they had to take me home, Shocked !!
To cut this short I saw my Doc . he sent me to Heart & Lung Specialist he said I had good lungs but I was suffering from 'Angina 'eg. lack of Oxygen getting pumped to the Heart.
Seven Days later I had FIVE Heart bypasses inserted to save my life , as I had One artery completely blocked and Two arteries at 70 % blocked and two more also buggered.
That all happened in February 2011 I am now back on the bike feeling very happy to have survived.
The Moral of this is If You get short of Breath stop and get it checked do not put it off.
Happy Christmas to you all ,
Regards Ian

Ian,
Glad you made it through all the adversity. It is good to hear you are back on your bicycle, too. Hope Christmas is a good one this year and we are glad you are still with us to celebrate and to ride.

Happy Christmas to you as well, Ian. Now that you've gotten the fix you need to be around a bit longer. Stop in a bit more often. Always interested in hearing about what's taking place down under.

Happy Christmas and happy Spring Ian. You're heading into summer and I'm heading into winter.
Glad you got checked out and had the heart problem fixed.
My wife and I had the Cardiac Calcium CT a couple of years ago. She's ok but it seems I have a hereditary heart problem. Luckily my cardiologist is a cyclist. He said riding is the best thing I can do.

WOW! It's a good thing you where riding with friends. Buy them all a beer. 5 bypasses at once, you had another riding partner as well to get you through this.
Have a wonderful Holiday.
Enjoy the Ride.

Can't add anything other than you survived. Now get on with your life and keep riding.

Had a triple 12 years ago and it was completely out of the blue like yours. 3 months later I was back riding but had to modify the bike to raise the bars and bring them back a bit. That was to take the strain off the chest and pain from the Chest carried on for a couple of years. But riding--Once I got off the drugs- I was back up to par and above it. Just didn't realise how blocked arteries affected me.

Just take it steadily and get off the beta blockers with advice from the doc. Do not suddenly stop them. Till you do get off them--Just enjoy the scenery but keep enjoying it.

Ditto your comment above! Symptoms of heart/cardiovascular problems is nothing to mess with. Get them checked out immediately.

Sounds as if you got the bypasses before there was any damage to the heart muscle? That's a good thing!
Keep on riding!

(Rushes to Google to remind self exactly where NSW is.)

Doctor j,
Hi, many thanks for your reply to my post, It has been a long journey, and I am very happy that my wife Brenda and my family were there to assist me, I really don't think I could have got this far without Brenda helping me both physically and with her positive mental guidance.
Also of course all the Medical staff at St. Vincent's Private Hospital in Melbourne deserve a 'Medal ' for getting me back to Ride my Bike again. I am feeling better and stronger every day.
Enough about me , please send me an email or PM. with some more details about your life and Family and your achievements.
Regards Ian

Thank you

qcpmsame,
Hi,
Thank you for your kind words re my medical condition , I am please to say that it is all coming together just fine in time for Christmas.
Are you having a holiday at Christmas, what sort of weather do you have in your area, we have heaps of Hot weather this time of the year , I love it I can just throw on a pair of Shorts a Tee Shirt and I am set for the day. Most days are perfect for Bike riding and Albury is not a very large country Town so we don't have to ride far to get onto quiet roads ..
Please send me a PM with more details re your life happenings .
All the best Ian
