Did you ride to Your High School Reunion ?

Two of my bike friends from Baytown Texas are almost there.
They left on July 10th.

It would be just about that far for me too (2400 miles) but somehow I don't think I will ride my bike there. I think it a great idea for them, and applaud them for doing it.

Mine will be next year in Roundup, MT. I hope to drive the Corvette and take my bicycle. I want to ride some mountains when I am there. It is too far to ride to Roundup from Houston while I am still employed.

I didn’t ride directly to my most recent high school reunion, but I did 94 miles of an intended century on the Third Annual Bike Forums Fifty-Plus Ride in Chelsea, MI that afternoon preceding the reunion. In fact I originally went to Michigan for the ride, and found out the reunion was that night:

Originally Posted by Jim from Boston

The upshot was spending from about 4:00 to 8:30 PM in the Emergency Room, with abrasions on my arms, knees, and a couple ugly ones on my face; and a gash about 1 inch long requiring 18 stitches to close. But not to worry, I’m OK, though I haven’t checked out the bike.

…That night was a high school reunion from about 7:30 to 11:30 PM back in the Detroit area, about 60 miles away. The gracious police picked me up from the hospital, took me back to my car sitting forlornly in the lot by itself and then back to the police station to pick up my bike. So I left Chelsea at about 9:00 PM and hustled back to my mother’s house, in my smelly blood-stained cycling clothes. At about 20 miles from home the empty gas tank light went on, assuring me of 70 miles to empty. I got to her house around 10:15, and cleaned up quickly. I always carry 3’ x 4’ band aids for abrasions, so I put it over the wounds (over my right forehead-temple-eyesocket-cheek area); think Phantom of the Opera.

I arrived at the reunion about 11:00 PM. It was a pretty low key, all-classes affair, and not many of my class showed up, including the couple I had been very good friends with in High School and had sent me the notice of the reunion. A lot of my classmates still live in that area and see each other frequently so there is less motivation to attend than for me out in Boston. Nonetheless it was nice and we hung around until after midnight, I then went out for a local Detroit specialty, the Coney Dog (two); hot dog on a bun with chili, cheese, onion, mustard and bacon, finally going to bed at 1:30 AM, and up around 6:45 this AM…

I didn't go to my reunion...they forgot to tell me there was going to be one, bad part is they didn't tell my wife either and we graduated together.

Looks like fun. I suppose most the old timers at the reunion were speechless.

I won't be riding to my high school reunion. Too many miles between Atlanta and Olympia, WA.

Very impressive. If I did ride it would be on one of my Ducati's.

"Ride"? Hell, I didn't even go. Like wahoonc, I didn't get an invitation...and if I had, I probably still wouldn't have gone.

Actually I did. Just last weekend. My ride is only 53 miles though!! Some great hills to get there too! Three of us did a ride the next morning and I got my first experience riding stoker on a tandem. Two in-shape riders can really fly on those things!

I've gotten the invitations every ten years but never felt inclined to attend. If I ever did, I would probably ride my touring bike.

Not likely that I'd ever want to attend a high school reunion though!

Just had my 50th reunion a few weeks back. Didn't ride to the reunion ( 53 miles one way) but i often do ride to the same old home town as it's where my brother lives and i visit often via bike. Wonder how the spandex would have gone over?

Wow! What a wonderful trip.

It's only 30 miles to my high school reunion but I always drive so I can pick up my sister. She doesn't ride a bike

Did not ride to it (850+ miles) BUT I did ride while I was in town, 4 times, totaling ~100. It was a lot of fun since on 2 of those occassion I was accompanied by classmates.

Early in my touring career I lucked out and got to ride the 200 miles to my 46th reunion. My wife drove over. Great experience.
