Cabin Fever and what I did about it...

Been cooped up since the 23rd. Well, 24th and 25th would have been beautiful riding days, but just didn't work out for somewhat obvious reasons. We've had torrential rain this past week, associated with fog or wind or both, so it's been the trainer (or a bottle of beer...).

Today, decided to go ride. Weather clearing per the radar, figured on hill repeats using the commutemobile, since the road bike is on the trainer and clean.

Clearing. Right. Hill repeats in torrential rain. Fun. On the commute bike. With the "gravity boot" tires. More fun.

Managed two whole repeats (each ride is about 15 minutes, for me, up to the top, 5 mins back down because I make up for being slow going up by being slow going down). I ran out of gears with the gripper tires. AND got passed by the local 30-year-old veterinarian who is about 5'2 and 100 pounds soaking wet. She passed me like I had a reverse gear going.

So I went and had two pints of beer. Why fight it?

I with you.

I haven't been out since Christmas eve because of rain or wind or both. I don't do rain rides. I did enough of that when I was commuting to work (now retired).

It started sprinkling/misting when I was about to head out so I decided to get the trainer out of the shed (storage). Put the Litespeed on it and rode for almost 2 hours while I watched the last 2 episodes of Luther on Netflix.
About 30 minutes after I finished riding the sun came out. Go figure.

Tomorrow it is supposed to be decent - it is clear as a bell and getting cold by the minute now (bout 2 hrs past dark). Low predicted is 29. Glad I bought my wife a l/s thermal jersey and some new gloves, and earlier some shoe covers, because we are a-ridin' in the mornin'.

Why do I think it may be me riding in the morning, after we have our coffee?

Tomorrow is looking good for me too. I just put a front rack back on my touring bike and I'm heading for the coast in the morning. I'll come back next year if all goes well.

Should be nice weather over there. I would really like a long ride tomorrow, but my wife wants to ride and isn't up for the distance. So, there will be in consolation for lack of exercise. That and a good show to ring in the new year (Parson Red Heads at the White Eagle Saloon, it'll be the best show in town for all you PDX folk).

I have ridden the last three days...my normal exercize ride. I signed up for the local exercize place for those days when it is yucky outside but decided that the outdoor ride is much better...albeit a little cooler.

I love stories with happy endings. Any chance the 30 yr old vet was a cute redhead? We've heard about them round these parts before.

Nope, cute blonde. Gone so fast I barely had time to respond to her "hello" with a "good morning."

And the grande ride today? Cold and foggy, and some intervention by other priorities (eek!) prevented the ride. So it'll be only today. Which means more trainer time tomorrow nite...
