Great help, thanks.
You all responded so promptly and informativly to my last post. Thank you all.
Your wide range of bicycle choices has convinced me that it doesn't matter what I ride so I have started tooling around on my daughter's bike and I must say that I find it to be quite enjoyable. She doesn't have room for it at her present location so I get to use it for now. Please don't tell her.

why not? I took my son's MTB and put new brakes on it, and I am riding it while he is in Afghanistan. mine was stolen a couple years back and riding his is cheaper than a new one. lance was right, its not about the bike. its about riding.

That's a good way to start. They say that your first bike is just to teach you what you need in a bike. So a free first bike as you have chosen is perfect. Many happy miles. As you ride, you'll discover what the perfect second bike is.

Thats a great way to go. You will see what kind of ridding you like and your next bike choice will be easer. Ride long, and safe.
