First ride since Labor Day
I'd been doing some work on my fixed gear so I decided to test ride it in the condo parking lot. While a fixed gear might not sound like the best "first" ride choice, the ride itself, while only a couple of hundred feet, went fine. Getting off was another story. I didn't have the strength in my bad leg to support myself while I swung my good leg over the saddle, and I don't have the range of motion to swing over the bad leg. Eventually I got it done (safely) but I almost invented a new way to Tombay.
Uh - I hadn't bothered to strap on a helmet either. I thought about that as I was trying to figure out how I was going to dismount. It's good that Mrs. Grouch wasn't wqtching.

We've swapped stories about starting again after injury. I recognise everything in the quote above. Ain't that a kick in the head!
And maybe, yes, it's in the head. The more I swing my leg over the saddle, the more I can. Including now, swinging my leg over the stoker bars and stoker saddle on the tandem. And doing trail runs downhill on rocky ground.

In the words of a past President, I feel your pain. Yesterday I got in my first real ride since November. My conclusion is that this is going to be hard to get back into form. I am fighting a damaged nerve in my right leg. After $1000 out of pocket medical expenses the experts say essentially there is nothing they can do for me.

I usually get off my bike from the back, it looks cool.
The real reason is that I can't get a leg up high enough to swing it off the side. Unle less my bike it at a 45 degree angle, and then still aint easy, or pretty.
Maybe you can try the tilt-a-bike method and it will work better for you.

Never liked fixies-and you have just re-enforced my "Hypothetical" mislike. I had not even thought about stopping a fixie- let alone the dismount
