Just a helpful suggestion for the newly re-present DG

Who seems to be, as before, charmingly indecisive about a bike purchase.

Seems like he wants a reliable and charming bike that will do smooth, rough, long distance, loads.

I think my 1990 Specialized Sirrus Triple would do the job. It's been carefully pre-patinated, and it rides like a magic carpet.

I could stretch to reach and fit his 1500 budget

(But the brooks would double)

Funnily enough been thinking the same as you on the Sirrus and a Giant Rapid as an alternative. But you know DG of old- He is a new man with fresh ideas now and will probably walk into a shop with a nice shiny Raleigh and get it because it's WHITE

It will either be a Raleigh or a Pinarello Dogma-- but that may be more difficult to sell to him--They only come in Red-Or Blue-Or Black.

Only thing i do know is that the sooner he gets a bike- The better it will be. His prowess of taking pics of the Bikini babes on bikes is sorely missed.

Welcome back DG.

Bikini Babes.........in which case he should go for a pot-metal, 60lb beach cruiser. Problem solved. He can paint "Pinarello" on the pink chain-guard.

For people who don't know me, I do this as a free public service, for the benefit of all the lurkers and memory-challenged 50+ers who have the same questions, but are too timid to ask.

Thank you. I thought it only proper to start my Perfect Bike Quest now, before Spring, so I'd have it dialed in by Bikini Babe season.

Now there's an idea! Why didn't I think of that?

Huh? I didn't know they had Bikini Babes on Pitcairn Island. I thought you were exiled there to suffer a life of loneliness.

Perhaps you're confusing me with Alfred Dreymus, and Devil's Island? Here on Pitcairn, we have lots of Bikini Babes, in season, which is year-round.

Hmmm...I'm thinking Capt. Bligh, or was it Fletcher Christian? Or Digital Bligh?

God, I hate these brain farts.

Tell me about it. They're worse than Lab (as in retriever) farts.

What I wonder is why you didn't ask why I would even consider a road bike for Pitcairn Island. From one of our websites, "We have only one very short road, and Pitcairn has one sealed road. There are no other proper roads on Pitcairn, only dirt tracks. Transport around the island is by quad bike or on foot. All quad bikes are privately owned and therefore most visitors travel on foot. Longer-term visitors who propose using a quad bike are required to pass a driving test before a licence will be issued."

I would get a road bike to start a trend.
