LOL Sure you do - but way too much of its being spent on the Internet! A bike ride for coffee and pie, followed by a dip in a hot tub all sound like great ideas. And will give you something to write about!

Yeah....I was reading bike reviews (N+1 obsession) yesterday and forgot to pick up my son for work (his car's in the shop). It becomes so easy to read ABOUT things rather than DO things. With retirement closing in, I'm gonna have to put up structures of activity to keep me from being on-line unshaven in my boxers and tee-shirt at 3:00pm.

There seem to be a lot of Bikeforums members in Boston so when I'm out riding and encounter a serious-appearing cyclist, I chat up Bike Forums to see if they are a subscriber. At least couple of snooty roadies have replied that they would rather be out riding, than posting about it.

My reply is that, well, I post at work when I can't be riding.

Well, you can think of it this way: At least you can point to having racked up 19,000+ posts, which makes you look much more productive than those of us who spend tons of time on here and don't even have anything to show for it - except, of course, for all the edification and amusement that we have absorbed over the years thanks to folks like you.

Of course, it would be better to be out riding, but you can't ride 24/7, and I can honestly say that the quality of my life as a cyclist has been much enriched and sometimes even inspired by stuff that I've seen on BF. So it's all good, as long as sitting at the computer doesn't cut into one's riding time or other important aspects of one's life, if there are any.

In my town, a small town in Rhode Island, the old guys hang out in or in front of the coffee shops. In Yurp, people have, for countless generations. done the same thing. I would suggest that the modern day equivalent is the internet. I would suggest that this is the universal desire to connect with the rest of the world.

Let's see. You say that since Feb. 04 with 19000 posts, you spend so much time on the computer. Is that too much time on Bike Forums or too much time in general? This begs the question, what else and how much time do you spend on the computer other than Bike Forums? Now, of course, your time on these forums should be a source of pride.

Machka has 29,297 posts to her credit (third in the rankings behind pcad and blotto), and we get plenty of time to ride lots (and we talk a fair bit about BFs and the issues and how they might or might not affect us). Plus, like you Retro, she is as helpful as can be in the conversations she has with people here.

Stay up with it. You've been around cycling for a long time and will get back out there riding again. And as one of the sages here you have a lot to contribute, at least in my estimation.

We are currently a Nielson family and we are supposed to log everything we watch on TV. Since my wife has other distractions, the only thing we've entered is about 10 minutes of the Weather Channel.

I'd love to flood the ratings with Gilliagans Island reruns, but that wouldn't be honest.

Nothing wrong with that. That described me at least three days a week, except I leave at 1:00 pm and go riding every day. Retirement is great!

I may have a life (that's really debatable), but I have only a finite amount of intelligence in my noggin. Because of that, each additional post I put out there dilutes the quality of the aggregate that came before. If X amount of intelligence = N number of posts, then each post is worth X/N. Adding to my post count means each post now is worth X/N+1.
