I won’t bore you with the long introduction to how I acquired my N+1 this week but I will tell you that I think I found the kind of classic I was looking for. And like the old story goes it I found it in a shed, well a back storage room, under old bike tires and blankets.
It looks to be a 91 or 92 Klein Quantum. It has Dura Ace 7400 ST shifters and derailleur. It has a Dura Ace Head set, crank set and cranks. Dura Ace brakes. It also has Cinelli Giro Ilallia bars. It came with Mavic Open Pro wheels. This bike should be a great around town ride. I took it out for an hour today and found it to be better than I expected.

Looks like an awfully nice bike. Do you think it is a Quantum Pro as it has all the Dura Ace components?

I think the Pro had the cables running through the Top Tube. I just believe the owner upgraded to Dura Ace at some point. The bonus was it came with Speed Plays, added later I am sure. I believe this was one of the earlier Kleins and it has a early serial number. The other bonus is it was well taken care of till the guy I got it from stashed it away. The guy I bought it from is an impulse buyer and bought it before he discovered he couldn't ride it. He doesn't ride clipless ever.

well the short story is it was a classic yankee trader story. He had two bikes I was very interested in. A Raleigh RX 1 and a Masi that I had sold him last year. Both bikes were newer I believe the Masi was a 2009 and the Raleigh was a 2009 or 2010. we couldn't agree on either bike and he offered a Giant OCR-2 and made a very tempting offer. when I countered on the Masi again he said, "I might as well sell that old Klein for that price. It is too big for me anyway." He rides a 52 but has short arms and can't ride anything bigger than a 53. I may have let slip a small smile as I put out my hand to accept the deal. I drove home a happy man.

I do have something to measure the Klein against. My first new road bike was a Jamis Ventura Sport. It had a Sora drive train but other than that is was close.
My first ever build was a Scandium frame, more like super Aluminum. Very light and very stiff.

Not dissing the Jamis, but I think your Klein is a cut above. Nice purchase, nice color, nice bike. You should enjoy it for a long time.

This is the 50+ Forum, we dont get bored here.
Nice bike. I noticed the "red" tape on the bars. I had the same stuff on my red '85 Trek 460 until it went pink. Black tape looks sweet and racey with red bikes.

Howitzer,
The Klein is a great score for an N+1 any day. I have admired them since seeing one in 1978 when he made a few at a time. Great lines and a well equipped bicycle. Hope you enjoy that ride for a while!

It had red on it so I simply went with red. I thought white with a white saddle but If I have to change again I might go with black.

Oh I agree. I was only saying I have had Aluminum bikes before but they didn't ride like this one. This is a big step up from my Jamis. The shiftind is a lot smoother than I thought it would be. The old Dura Ace is still smoother and less effort than the Sora that was stock on my Jamis.

Heard about this bike with Mobile155 and I did not realise how good a condition it was. You mentioned the ride but what wheels are fitted? and how stiff is it? Most Kleins are filling shifters so hope you have a good dental plan.

You may want to check that front wheel spoke count you posted there.

You are right. Didn't read my own post. 28 front. Didn't happen as much when I used to look at the keys when I typed. I have been riding low spoke count wheels like my new Dura ace and Mavics on my CF bike for two or three years so I am used to 20 front and 24 rear. I decided to check the wheels out a bit more and it seems as if they might be a Bicycle wheel warehouse build. Anyway the hubs are Dura Ace but the spokes seem to be DT or KSwiss. The Nipples look to be DT and the 28 was a custom Dura Ace hub with the 32 standard. Obviously they were upgraded wheels because of the hubs. Took it over to the local Trek shop to show it off and pick up tire levers and pads. There was some interest in the Dura Ace seat postas well. This score just keeps getting better.
To bring me back to earth I got right hooked on the way home. I managed to get the bike sideways and leaned my shoulder into the vehicle just before I came to a stop. Cut my finger and the shoulder is just a touch sore but no damage to me or the bike other wise.
