Got a few clues about saddle soreness today...

I'm not sure why the simplest idea doesn't occur to me quickly, but I was out riding today, still experiencing soreness on the saddle. Okay, it's new, and my butt is not in bike shape, but still...

Then I realized I was riding a bit too forward on the saddle. D'oh! I slid back a little, and voila! Felt better immediately.

Not sure why I was riding on the nose so much; when I got fitted for the bike I was perched back where I should be.

Also had less neck pain today, and I'm convinced that's just a matter of getting in the miles.

miles and miles, but many people suffer week after week with a saddle that isn't perfect for them. If you have an LBS that will let you test and return saddles, try saddle after saddle and remember that as you get in better shape and your butt gets broken in better, you will be more comfortable on a thinner saddle. I'm a clyde that is now using a Romin saddle that I could not have possibly used a year ago.

I am relatively lucky in that I can ride on almost any saddle. Still, a Brooks Swallow that I have recently acquired is the best. It beats my San Marco Rolls by far. It is so amazingly comfortable that I am riding that even on my carbon bike (in spite of cat calls from ride partners).

What I mean to say is that if you keep experimenting, you will definitely find a saddle that feels just perfect. I did a 120 km ride this Saturday, over some not too well surfaced roads, and there was not even a hint of saddle soreness later.

Any butt can adjust to any saddle given correct set up and time. Saying that-I do have a saddle in the shed from the GT Pantera I bought in 91. Initial saddle was great but it broke and the replacement supplied free by the LBS is one of the tools used by the Inquisition. That saddle is loaned to people that say their saddle is not comfortable--It is after this one.

Nose of saddle might be angled down just a bit(for you), causing you to slide forward. My road bike I have the nose ever so slightly up. On my mountain bike it's angled down slightly. Never said I was normal...
