Chamois Creme

Also if you haven't had any need for a creme in the past maybe the pad in your shorts has outlived its useful life. Might be time for new shorts. I used Chamois Butt'r for years. My LBS was out so I bought a tube of Assos, but don't really like the menthol feel. I only use it for 4+ hour rides. Been riding mostly without it so far this year with no chafing problems. I also have 4 pairs of short and 2 knickers that I rotate, and all get washed after every ride.

It sure looks like the Bag Balm will heal this rapidly. I think that in the future, when this is healed, I'll continue to use it daily but very lightly.

saddle sore = hot baths with epsom salt and bath soap 20 min minimum and after drying thoroughly Clearasil acne cream. if the hair follicle is bent over and now you have a swollen puss-filled area after soaking it you might be able to pop it. you can also try it under water continuing your soak after the popping will help heal it.

Been using this for years. Most big box retailers carry it (Wal Mart, Etc.). Around $3.99 for a 15oz jar which lasts quite a while even in everyday use.
I played around with several cremes, but most of them gave me a rash over time. I had good results with Asso, but it was overpriced, so I looked around for a product with similar ingrediants. I'm sure that Asso has virgin Swiss edelweiss buds or something as their secret indrediant, but otherwise the ingredient list hits all the big ones.
Plus this has a nice "Spring Break at the beach" smell.
I recommended it to the racing crowd, who do a ton of training miles, and it's developed a fan base.
One other thing, it's worth checking your chamois from time to time to make sure they aren't coming apart. Sometimes loose stitching or a hole can cause irritation.

Is the internet cool or what??! What would I have done 20 years ago? I would have made it to the same end point eventually but only after a lot of money and trial and error.

When touring, I have used Vasoline Intensive Care lotion with Aloe. Very soothing.

Just about sums up exactly my situation that occured 2 weeks ago ... except I'm a few miles down the coast in Sarasota.Never had a problem in almost 3 yrs of cycling,no change to equipment etc.,etc.
Stopped riding for a week (used the gym instead!) and a liberal helping of Assos creme + Hibiclens antimicrobial cleanser after each ride seemed to have cured it and back to 150+ miles/week now.Have decided to change my saddle to a narrower design and this also seems to help me.My cycling colleagues tell me that I should ride harder since this will take more pressure of my butt - but then they are younger and stronger than me and it is April 1st!
Good luck!

Use Anti Monkey Butt when you're not on the bike to keep the irritation at a minimum.

But gee I dont understand. All the DF riders tell us that "proper fit" does away with all pain!!!!
Anti monkey butt, butt butter, and bag balm what a hoot. As a bent rider the only greasy balls I have on my bike is in the bearings!!!!!!

RE: Bag Balm: does it wash out easily and completely, leaving no residue or stains? I've only used Chamois Butt'r which leaves no trace after washing.
Dog mushers use Bag Balm a lot on the feet of their long distance sled dogs, Iditarod, Yukon Quest, etc.

I know Bag Balm removes easily off the hands with soap and water. I just checked the shorts now as I washed them last night and there isn't any evidence of residue or a stain. Of course, I've only been using Bag Balm for about a week and a half so far--but, LOL, each short has been exposed to bag balm twice.
