10 miles this morning.
My new short crank was good.
My starts were all smooth.
Hip pain was manageable, in fact, I'm thinking that riding the recumbent is the best therapy I've tried.
Speed was satisfactory for such a long lay off.
I definitely wasn't pooped after 10 miles but I decided to leave something in the tank for tomorrow.
All-in-all, it was an uneventful ride. Sometimes uneventful is good.

On our way home Mrs. Grouch said that she's getting used to riding by herself but misses being with me on the tandem. I told her I wasn't ready for that again yet but might be by this time next year. She said "On the Screamer?" and didn't totally reject the idea out of hand. That's progress.

Great News! 10 miles is a nice start. Along the Katy or elsewhere?
I just put my order in for semi-short cranks for my RANS Stratus. The stock cranks are 175 mm. They are decent mid-range FSA cranks (52/42/30) with a GXP bottom bracket. I found a set of discontinued FSA triple cranks, also GXP, for just $99, list $225. With a bit lower gearing (50/39/30) and 165 mm crank arms. Not quite as short as those shortened & cut off 148-155mm cranks. I think they will be nigh perfect.
I love riding the Stratus, except for finding it difficult to maintain a higher spin cadence, because of those long cranks. I'm really looking forward to getting the new crankset on.

Fourteen today so I'm creeping up on it, hip still feels good.
Mrs. Grouch and I have been riding in Lakeside Park in north St Peters. There's a 4.3 mile paved trail around a lake that was dredged to provide the dirt for a flood control levy. It's a fairly new park and it's not fully developed yet so it's not the most senic ride, but the MUP isn't as crowded either. It meets our needs at least for now.

Today turned into a pie ride day.
Rode 15 miles with Mrs. Grouch this morning. Went to my daughter's for dinner. She had angelfood cake for desert but was afraid the universe might implode if I ate angelfood so she made a cherry pie, my favorite, just for me. She had ice cream to go with it too.

Good point! I was thinking that the mental issues are mostly under control. When I know that I'm having mental issues it's easy to think "Just tough through it." Doing it is another story entirely.
