Hello all, first post here. I have been talking about getting back on the bike for some time. I will start tomorrow morning with an easy spin around the neighborhood for about 30 - 45 minutes. I reset my computer and realized I did a paltry 169 miles in 2011! I know that is pathetic, but my work schedule goes something like this....4 nights on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 3 nights on, 2 days off and then 4 days on. This is followed by 5 days off, 4 training days and then six days off. Then the cycle starts again. I think the bulk of my riding will have to come off shift, but I may get some rides in between. I am also a testicular cancer survivor and take testorone supplements since my other testicle shut down, so I have to meter my energies so that I am able to recover properly and still be able to function. I was diagnosed at age 49, way outside the normal age range. Anyway, I am looking forward to spending time on my bike and perusing this forum for inspiration!

Welcome. That sounds like the kind of work schedule my step daughter and her husband have. They are big city paramedics.
How close is work? What about incorporating bike commuting into your regimen? Some lights. fenders and rain gear, and off you go.

Welcome to the 50+ forum Lee, hope your return to riding can continue. We have a few hard and fast rules here:
1. Post pictures of your bicycle and your rides often.
2. Have your choice of Pie after a ride and on Pie ride day.
3. Schedule your colonoscopy soon, and send proof to Digital Gee, Gary oversees there procedures for the forum.
4. Don't miss meetings or you get elected to head a sub-committee.
5. Tell the kids to stay off our grass.

Thanks for the welcome. I work 12 hour shifts at a coal fired power plant. Work is 37 miles away, so commuting is out of the equation due to having to sleep. Also, shifts start at 0445 and 1645. I've already had the colonoscopy, good to go for five years!

Just use the bike locally instead of the car. Surprising how many miles you can do and how much Fuel you can save.
