Noted on this morning's ride [WARNING: CONTAINS POLITICAL MATERIAL]
[Mods, please feel free to banish to P&R if appropriate]
So near the end of my morning ride today I was going by the local private elementary school and there was this sign. Then remembered that this weekend is the French presidential election -- but in Honolulu? I didn't realize that my neighborhood was so tony. Then again, this is also the area where Obama grew up, so I guess that it only figures that we must be a bunch of beret-wearing, brie-chomping, Johnny Hallyday-addled poseurs...

Not sure what facts you're referring to, but apparently the attempt at facetiousness failed -- Mods, please remove the thread.

For their first concert, The Jimi Hendrix Experience opened for Johnny Hallyday in Évreux on 13 October 1966.

Not sure which way to take it:
-It is not unusual for countries to make provision so their citizens can vote while out of the country. Not all that long ago the news was full of stories about Iraq setting up voting places around the US.
-A bit of humor that failed because folks took the whole thing too seriously. Now THAT is a shame.

Sorry Miss Kenton but you have gone down in my estimation. I was in France when Johnny Hallyday was about and we had Cliff Richard and the shadows. No comparison on the music- or is there something about him I did not notice?

I was rummaging around Otisco today in vain search of a Coke machine, and I saw a tiny little house with what looked like the Belgian flag hanging from the door (implying they were cyclists. Why else would anyone fly the Belgian flag?). Or was it the Romanian flag? I'm not sure I can tell the difference. Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool, considering it was Otisco and all.
Edit- after thirty seconds of research I figured out that it was the Romanian flag. Now that's weird! Buna seatta!

They might be Belgians . Very stealthy , the Belgians . I had no idea the Rolle Bolle Championships were held at a little town up the line from me {Kewanee**. Rolle Bolle is kind of like Bocce, only you're rolling a thing like a wooden salad bowl at the little ball . A very Belgian Sport . I see a lot of places claim Rolle Bolle in America, including Marshalltown IA and Ghent MN .

There is just something about a man singing in French. Of course, it may be because I can't understand what he's singing about and just mentally fill in words that would please me; words like, "How lovely you look today,Miss Kenton" or "You have mad bike skills, Miss Kenton." You know, lyrics like that.
P.S. I really had no idea who Cliff Richard was, so I "You Tubed" him. I do know and like his songs, I just didn't know who performed them. Too bad he didn't sing them in French.

Both Cliff Richard and Johnny Hallyday were wildly successful in the States.

So sorry to disappoint you, Stapfam. If it makes you feel better, I like Florent Pagny much more than Hallyday.

Never cared much about popular singers french or american--but I did vote--and May 6 I will do it again because it is the runoff!
I may even bicycle to the "bureau de votes" over the Berkeley hills, it would be a great ride with a purpose!

Edith Piaf would probably take issue with Mozart on that one .
