Recently qualified for the 50+ club

Hi All,

Turned 50 back in March. Glad to see a forum for this group. I started riding back in my mid 40's, and have noticed a definite difference this past year or so. Slowing down fer sure

But, forging onward regardless. Wish me luck as I am off to Chattanooga this Saturday for the annual 3 State 3 Mountain Century. Have done it the last 2 years, and really only worried about the formidable Burkhalter Gap climb to the top of Lookout Mtn. Ugh that is steep.

Welcome, and don't let turning 50 be an excuse for slowing down!

Welcome aboard 50+, now schedule your colonoscopy soon. And let us know your Pie preference, too.

Remember, Pie is mandatory for rides equal or greater than you age, for the first real ride on a brand new bike, and, IMHO, to celebrate an N+1.

Beaver

You will find us a friendly lot- once you get to know us but you are joining a group of riders that are no better or worse that you on the slowing down. But we have to know Pie preference- type of riding you do- What bike you ride and we like pics. For most of us we need pics as Our eyesight is not good for reading small type.

Err . . I didn't START riding until I was 58 - was I already slowing down before I started? Wait - don't answer that.

What we need most is your colonoscopy report, followed by your favorite pie (better be blueberry) and the initiation fee, which is $100 minus your age.

Yes, very familiar with the Harpeth River Ride and the Trace Parkway. I live within 2 miles of it, and am cycling on it all the time. Often with Trace Bikes group.

Already signed up for the HRR (http://harpethriverride.com/) century. Have done it the previous 3 years. Great ride besides the fact it has been -deadly- hot each time. This year they are holding it a bit earlier in the month, hopefully that will help some with the heat.

The route is very hilly btw. There are no mountains here, but lots of rolling hills.

Someone wanted pics... here is one snapped at top of Pulltight Hill last year at HRR, that is me to Lance's right... No, I did not ride with him (I wish!), but just happened to be in the right spot at the right time.

Our group left early, knowing otherwise we had no chance of seeing Lance. I was about 3/4 up Pulltight Hill when he started up. So we just kinda mergred right at the top, photogs everywhere... it was cool.

I lasted just another couple miles with that group, until another big hill did me in!

This year rumor is Cris Horner is coming.

Reaching this stage in life doesn't mean we are all getting that much slower. We just have to learn to conserve ourselves better for when the effort is needed.

My sentiments exactly... I believe turning 50 only triggers the start of a five-year probationary period though... it's kind of like being a domestique!

Hmmm... I see you will be at the HRR. I may need extra water if it's hot.
