My First Flat Of The Season
There, got that done with and out of the way. I've been wondering when and where it would strike. So I got in off the road from a brisk 10.5mi in the rolling hills out back of town, put the bike in the garage and went in to clean up. About 2hrs later I go out to give the bike a once over after the ride and the front is flat.
After searching the inside of the tire I found the tiniest piece of wire sticking through the inside of the tire, just enough to puncture the tire. I dont think it was more than 2mm long and very light guage. Looks like the wire used on wire brushes.
Last summer, same thing. Had a piece of wire stuck out the sidewall and of course I had to pull it, the sound of hissing as I put the pliers back. Seems to be my nemesis these little nubbins of wire.

At least you made it back home on the tire before it went flat. Had my first flat of the year a couple of weeks ago around 20 miles from home, ran over a staple. Then 3 days later got another around 30 miles into a 75 mile ride, this time a large nail. Glad I always carry 2 spares and lots of CO2 on long rides.

Already had mine about a month ago and then found that my spare tube was so old that the core came out of the presta valve when I pulled the pump off. Fortunately I was within about a miles walk of the nearest bicycle shop. A new tube, and pretty soon I was back churning the pedals.
I have noticed that the tire savers are working pretty well at significantly reducing the number of flats that I get on the MUPs and around town.

Flat Fairy's are going to be working overtime from now on.
Has anyone worked out how to appease them as I have just put new tyres on two of my bikes and I don't want them shredded.

I had exactly the same problem last season. The wire was so tiny, and so short a piece of it, that I only found it after bending and twisting the tire all around to make the fissure visible. Then I could barely see the wire hiding in it and had to go at it with tweezers. What a pain in the a$$.
