A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Ride?
This morning I did what I like to call a "Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy" or "The answer to the great question, to life, the Universe and everything" ride. I did my personal best in distance. This morning I rode 42 miles with an overall average of 16.5 mph. 42 miles is the most I've ridden in one day and, even better, in one single ride--I never put a foot down until I finished. Also, another first for me, I ate a Kashi bar and was able to grab the water bottle and drink all while riding--no stopping.
I really thought about making it an official ride-my-age, aka Pie, ride, but I had quite a few things to do today. So, 54 miles will have to be my next goal--so I can have pie.

Thanks for the congrats. It was a challenge to do that long a ride and not stop(mainly for traffic). A couple of times I just had cycle nearly at a stand still to be able to avoid traffic. The next goal, a pie ride, aka 54 miles(my age), I'm not going to worry if I have to stop once, twice, or so. Not sure I'll do it this week, but I will likely try it some time soon.
The longest ride for a single ride before this was 30 miles. I've done 38 miles, but that was sort of several rides throughout quite a few hours with some longish stops between some of the parts. My son's and his fiancee's eyes bugged out when I mentioned how long the ride was today.
P.S. LOL/sigh...I got it.
Love the book, enjoyed the film, and the local planetarium show based on Hitchhiker was awesome(about 20 years ago).

If you loved the book and enjoyed the film, you really ought to look up the the old BBC radio show. It's the best and most complete telling of the saga around. In fact Adams first wrote the series as the BBC radio play and everything else came later.
Too bad we lost Douglas Adams so early!

Nice going! I broke the 40 mile barrier last fall. 40 miles seems to be the point at which ones body (at least mine) learns to provide steady long distance power. Increases in your mileage will probably seem to come in larger jumps now.

Did 34 miles yesterday. Today was a wash out because of rain plus it was good to take a rest day after pushing 2 days in a row. Tomorrow, my plan is to do another 34 and Friday I want to do at least 40, but may try to do a Pie ride--in my case, 54 miles--my age. I'll wait for the pie as we're having a party to celebrate my birthday on Saturday--want to put the calories burned towards being a bit naughty on Saturday(ice cream/cake/fruit tart/sandwiches/potato salad/chips).
I can't wait to see the docs eyes bug out at my physical next week when I tell him the distance I rode--be it 42 or 54 miles.

It really isn't and I don't plan on repeating the feat unless it happens that I don't put a foot down on a ride. I was really curious to see if I could do it or it could be done(by me) on the route I ride. Additionally, there was a thread a while ago asking what was the longest distance ridden without putting a foot down.
