Got me a ground hog!
Today was Bike-to-work and I rode from a local park to the event. On my return to my car a ground hog came out of the tall grass next to the trail and hit my front wheel. I was on the ground in a flash. After laying there for a moment I determined there were no broken bones so I got up to check the bike.
The bike was in riding condition but the right shifter sustained some significant scratches and is bent out of shape. I just had this bike to the shop for a check up but it looks like another trip will be necessary. It shifted and braked okay on the rest of the ride so I think it's only knocked out of place.
The blood on the trail belongs to the ground hog. I bet he stops and looks both ways before crossing the bike trails in the future.
Thankfully the weather was a little cool at the start and I had on light tights and a jacket. My right knee sustained the most damage I bet this is going to be sore tomorrow! I have a small patch of road rash on the right elbow but the jacket and tights are still in perfect condition. I must have hit the left hand on the trip to the ground as it's slightly sore, too.
I don't have any rides scheduled until the middle of next week. I just hope the knee is ready by that time

I saw a ground hog family crossing a road last week. They nearly were flattened by the passing cars, but made it across some how.
Sorry to hear about the fall, give yourself a chance to heal.

The abrasions will heal but don't like the mauve tinge coming just above it. That will need some medication so bottle of red or a couple of stiff cognacs will help disguise it.
Glad you and the bike only have superficial damage but take it easy on that knee tomorrow or it may need more medication.

Nothing like creating a bit of roadkill, Bev!
No broken bones, no broken bike . . . great.
In AZ we don't worry about groundhogs; the rattle snakes take care of them!
Pedal on!

I'm glad it wasn't worse. Heal quickly!
I've had a number of them dart in front of me. One turned around and hissed at me!

In WVa they eat their road kill. I like my ground hog on a biscuit.
Seriously, you could have been hurt worse but it is a shame you got hurt at all. Heal up.

Ouch! Sorry about that.........At least no major damage, you never know, my last fall I ended up with a titanium rod and 2 bolts in my hip.....
But your ground hog reminds me of the squirrel that decided the spokes of my motorcycle front wheel were pass-through....It took a while to clean all the blood and guts!

I ended up visiting the local Urgent Care last night as the left wrist was swelling and really painful. My family doctor happened to be on duty and he was concerned since I have osteopenia and my wrists are the bones most affected. Thankfully the x-rays showed no broken bones.....just a bad sprain. A splint and extra strength Tylenol really helped.
I'm a little sore today but otherwise I feel fine. I'm still finding sore spots I didn't know were involved in the fall....right hip, left elbow, neck muscles
I do have a bump on my head but I got it this morning trying to take the bike off the bike rack. My splinted wrist just wasn't up to the task and when I lifted the bike up it fell toward me and the front of the saddle banged into my forehead I think I'm going to follow doctor's orders and stay away from the bikes for a few days!

I once ran over a possum on a MUP doin' about 13 mph (me, not the possum); I didn't fall and he just walked on his merry way. My lucky day I guess. Heal quickly!

A groundhog lumbered across the MUP in front of me two weeks ago. Fortunately there was enough distance between us so that I was able to turn slightly and go behind him. Sorry to hear about your spill. I hope you heal quickly.
