Longest ride since the Labor Day Massacre.

Mrs. Grouch and I went on our first organized ride since I broke my hip. I took the 27 1/2 mile option that had no real hills but a lot of small ups and downs. The ups were harder than I expected them to be. Did I mention it was 91 degrees and the last 6 miles were into the teeth of a headwind? Overall I was pretty well satisfied with my performance but I found my way to bed about an hour earlier than usually last night.

Friday morning is another (30 mile) ride with a group that I've never ridden with before. We'll see how it goes.

Good for you, Retro! I hope it was fun and that you can build back up to your former level of cycling fitness.

Yay!! It's this sort of positive stuff that slowly but surely pushes the bad memories to the filing cabinet way down in the figurative depths of your brain.

Know how you feel. I am a couple of months in front of you on the fitness- but mine was from laziness and not an injury. Only took a couple of rides for me to start feeling right so let us know how you feel after Fridays ride. If "Gentle" enough- you will be on the way back. If they take you up a mountain at 20mph- do a few more rides.

I take it no roadies got smoked on the ride?

Supposed to be pretty hot here, too, this coming weekend.

My Friday ride didn't turn out the way I had planned. When I got to the start area there were ACRES of parking but I couldn't find a group of riders. I eventually found some cars but no riders. They were supposed to leave at 9:00 but I'm thinking they made an early start to beat the heat.

I did a 16 mile ride by myself on a levy top. I averaged 13.5 MPH so I'm pretty happy with that. The levy top is a trail that I'd never ridden on before and I think Mrs. Grouch will like it so that's a plus.

All-in-all a good morning.
