You never know what's going to take you down. I worry about dogs or kids darting in front of me, and I worry about cars, and oil slicks, etc. I've never, however, worried about my cycling gloves and water bottle being the thing that took me down.

I have a pair of cycling golves with two loops coming out of each golve at the finger openings. It's designed to make it easier to take them off at the end of a ride, and they work well for that. Today, however, I was attempting to put my water bottle in the cage. After seating it in the cage, I was withdrawing my hand when one of the loops got caught on the lip of the water bottle valve and pulled it out of the cage. It promptly fell straight into my pedal stroke, which kicked it in front of the front wheel, which then took me down as quick as you can imagine. No injuries to report, expect to my pride. I think I'm cutting the loops off tonight.

I've added a photo of the glove style so others can make an informed choice in their cycling gear.

Glad you weren't hurt and neither was the bike.

I'm still trying to get comfortable with drinking water while still cycling. I've done it a couple of times, but I'm still shaky about doing it. Often I'll stop to take a drink. I don't have an issue with tearing open a breakfast bar and eating while cycling, it's the pulling the water out of the cage, opening the top, drinking and putting it back that still needs work.

Hokie Smokies.....I hope you didnt put alot of money on the lotto today. Glad you're ok. A trip over the handlebars usually isnt user friendly.

I've dropped my water bottle a few times but never like that.

As a matter of simplicity I leave the valve open on the bottle so a careful grab side-tilt of the noggin about does it.

One of the things I do like about riding a bike is the necessity of being alert at all times. Driving in an auto is more like sitting in a big at easy chair at home; a fine place for a nap but not providing a rich experience.

Just think of the speed gain you'll get without the extra weight of those loops.

Wow! Talk about freak accident. Glad you came out unscathed. When I used to race, I always had a moderate concern about crashing near the end of a race, when several riders would always jettison their bottles trying to lighten up for the final sprint. I've seen bottles tossed, only to deflect back into the pack - a crash never happened, though.

I cut/pull the loops off the water bottles that come with them too. Don't like that stuff.
