Hi Josh,
I have completed your survey and will post your link on our Bike Share program Facebook page. I can't provide too much information as our Bike Share program is still in the development stage. So far, we have repaired about 40 of the 300 bikes we have on hand. We can't really promote the program until we have enough bikes ready to meet demand. Good luck with your research!

Excuse the hackneyed phrase, but this appears to be a real "win-win" situation. You learn to wrench and simultaneously perform a valuable service for people in the area.

I'm learning to wrench on my own from books and occasional trips to my preferred LBS where the owner/mechanic is happy to let me watch and provide tips on wrenching. Having the LBS mechanics right there while the work is happening will provide an opportunity to learn quickly and avoid some of the pitfalls of the do-it-yourself method.

One of the founders of our program, a skilled bike mechanic by hobby, has the patience of a saint and is teaching me a great deal of useful repairs. I really enjoy working there.
