I love pie and particularly apple crumb, blueberry and gooseberry!

Does eating square pie lead to square love handles?

I don't know about that but "square meal" and "healthy meal" don't have to be synonyms.

I've been in the industry for 36 years...sure been thinking about retirement lately and just riding bikes, guess I'll have to add pie eating to that equation.

When did pie ascend to being so esteemed, revered, and cherished at the end of a ride? Not that is was ever some lowly treat. I mean, sweet potato pie & vanilla IC is my fav dessert
Is this a 50+ thing, 60+ thing, 70+ thing? Is it regional? It must have happened some time since I stopped doing centuries and other rides of any significant length (1998), b/c I never heard anyone delight about them in the bike world (racing or centuries) prior to then.

It has a long history in the 50+ forum starting with rck's ride reports of always getting a piece of blueberry pie at Irma's (Wisconsin) on his rides, and just built from there. The 50+ group has their own international pie ride in September. Stapfam generally starts announcing the date, etc., pretty soon. I believe it is the 3rd Saturday in September, and includes a 15+ mile ride along with having pie at a real cafe'. More later.

It is just for fun and some laughs in a generally weary and humor-deprived/humorless world.

Here is some history from a couple of years ago:

This thread got me thinking. I will be riding my fourth consecutive pie ride in September. What is the record here for riding consecutive Official Pie Rides? I am not talking about regular rides where one has had pie afterwards, I mean, the Official September Pie Ride. Nor does my question include "make-up" pie rides (i.e. "I am riding the following Saturday because I'm having a root canal, swimming the English Channel, or being being named Grand Poobah of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes Lodge No. 26, on the day of the real pie ride.")

What constitutes the definition of Official Pie Rides?

The ride is announced annually here by Stapfam.
It is held the 2nd (3rd?) Saturday in September.
We work on the honor system, naturally, because we are riding from all over the globe.
One must ride at least 15 miles.
One must eat pie.
There should be photos of the event posted here afterward. I say "should" because I have noticed that rules have become a bit lax in that area.
There is no winner. One's reward is being able to eat pie because the rules say you must.

Ok, now "I know" !

I'm looking forward to September already, will have to make sure 50+ members in the group I ride with partipate. I will have to start scouting for some good pie where I live. You have an early vote here for Sept 8th because my birthday is on the 9th. Eating pie on the 8th could be a good warmup to cake and ice cream on the 9th!
