More interesting stuff on this topic. I particularly was struck by the lowest hazard ratio for exercising only twice per week. My guess would be working the heart hard it is like any other muscle. It only recovers fully in something like 72 hours. Hitting it hard more oftentimes than that might not be most beneficial even if it only shows up as a health problem in a fraction of the people doing that.

Some here may remember Jim Fixx, author of "The Complete Book of Running" who is credited with helping start the fitness boom of the 80s. Fixx died of a heart attack at age 52, to the glee of many anti-exercise zealots. It mattered not that Fixx was genetically predisposed to heart disease, or that his lifestyle prior to taking up running included weighing 220lbs and being a heavy smoker.
No, running killed him. See! Take that, health nuts!
Sadly, I suspect too many people will simply see this study as affirmation for their belief that "Exercise hurts the heart", completely glossing over the defining word excess.
"C'mon kids, we're off to Micky D's.! Fetch the hand-truck so we can get your brother out to the mini-van."

Suppose it was excess running that killed Jim Fixx. The jump to the opposite isn't a given. It is not at all surprising there is too much of something like exercise and an optimum amount. Earlier, poor Jim Fixx may have had his life shortened vs exercising less. He probably had his life extended vs doing nothing. Fixx is a martyr of sorts. Doesn't mean we cannot learn more and learn better.
In other words, don't be ridiculous, and don't put your head in the sand. Live and learn my friend.
