1st 100 mile ride (at age 59)

I just posted to Road Cycling forum about my 1st 100 mile ride. Since I am 59, and participate a lot in this forum, I thought some folks would be interested.

Have to admit that my first century was in 94 when I was 47. That was the first of many so hope you get a few more in before you are past it

a month ago I did my first one of the year and I am not looking forward to the next one--I Need more training.

Congrats on the milestone. And, thanks for the link on the water bottles. One liter! That's good. Are they insulated?

I did my first "official" century on Saturday as part of the two day Bike MS fundraiser (day 2 was "only" 75 miles). Strava actually clocked it at 103.8. I'll be 59 in two months. The first 30 miles or so were done in a steady rain.

http://app.strava.com/rides/11541932

I'd done one "unofficial" ride in April that was more like 97.5 miles, when I retraced the route in my car.

Waytago! I confess I haven't done one yet. Longest ride ever was 76.2 miles. Opportunities and time don't coincide often enough.

But my sweetie and I did our first tandem metric century a few days ago.

Congratulations on your first century. I have about eight under my belt since my 45th birthday. I just turned 51 last Friday. The best thing about doing the centuries is you will lose about 5-6 lbs. in 5 hours. Its great to weigh yourself before you leave the house and again in the afternoon. They are alot of work with fatigue and leg cramps but I usually only do one or two per year. Many more to come for you. Remember to hydrate well before, during and after. And load up on the carbs, you will use all of them.

Congrats, did my first and last Century Ride in 1984, I really don't know if I'll ever "do it on purpose" again but it may happen on future longer tours! ENJOY the feeling!

Congratulations, and thanks for the inspiration. With foot pain and then body pain later, you conquered a more than 100 miles.
