Garrett County Gran Fondo......FINISHER!

Well after making only 32 miles of the Masochistic Metric last year, this year I finished! Felt pretty good the whole way. That last climb is a killer! Well, all of them are killers but the last one especially. 62 miles/ 8,000 feet of climbing. Dare I try the real Century next year? We'll see
Of the 1,200 entrants only about 600 finished the ride!
The numbers:
6 hours 25 minutes ride time. 8 hours 30 minutes total time. Top speed 52.2 mph. 7 24-ounce bottles consumed. 3 pbjs, a couple cookies, 2 Stinger bars, 4 gel packs and other "stuff"(orange slices, bananas). 19 minutes to get up the last hill(KOM did it in 8 minutes ).

Ride profile: http://www.winthefight.org/granfondo/courses/MM.pdf

Hats off to anyone who finishes this ride. It is one of the hardest climbing courses in the land. The finish is something to behold, 1500 ft of elevation gain to at a sharp incline to the finish on top of the mt. Not sure what the % is but more folks were walking their bikes up it than riding.

I did the century last year but was in no shape to attempt it this year due to a knee problem.

Congrats on finishing! I can't even imagine those type of climbs, and only half of the riders finished!

Who says that old guys don't rule!

Great ride - congratulations.

I chickened out of the ride last year.

I thought about it this year, and chickened out again.

One of the guys I ride with did the double. Said it was extremely hard, and took him 13 hours. He's a stronger climber than I am, so I guess my decision to miss the event was a wise one

The double? Wow that is an accomplishment. One of our guys is kicking himself for not doing it. He about made the turn off for it and backed out. He made the 100.....easily. I hate him

Great accomplishment! That is a lot of climbing for a flat lander.

This has been bothering me all week & we talked about it on Thurs. nite club ride. How did all the DNF get back to home base? The number you stated, 600 non finishers is a lot of bikes and riders.

I remember only one van acting as a sweeper last year.
