Gotta show off my new toy

I finally went out and bought myself a GoPro Hero2 camera. Here's what it looks like mounted to the handlebar.

Well, I had to give it a test run, so I'll take you on a ride from our house down to the lakefront. There is no commentary, no tunes, just mechanical music from my 3 speed, and incredibly clear video.

That beats my hand held efforts! Nice!

The tire noise sounds as if they are made from plastic.

Would like to hear a bit of commentary to see what it sounds like while riding but the vision is superb and noise from the drivetrain can definitely be heard------Far better than my Drift X170 that I bought last year.

Making me realiose what I should have bought now

Nice test. Nice trucker to back up so you could get onto the path.

Yeah, I was thinking of inserting a comment there about that, but I just left it for you to pick out. He had no idea it was a brother trucker he was helping out either.

I wonder if the plastic case imparts that quality to the sound. I'll try my next run with the open back on the case (they call it the skeleton back) and see if that makes a difference. The case isn't waterproof with the skeleton back on it, but I don't plan to go into the drink with it.

Yeah, listening to that, you'd think I had a really noisy bike. The mike is very sensitive.

Wow. I had no idea that small a camera could be so effective. They must have image stabilization built in to remove the shakes from road bumps. Well done!

The GoPros with the normal case pick up and even amplify any drivetrain sounds. You can dial that down with most video editing software.

K-Edge handlebar mount is highly recommended.

I've been researching the Gopro cameras, stopped at a store earlier today to check out the LCD and WiFi backs.

Video looks good, hopefully you waved a thankyou to the truck driver.

I tried one and returned it. I thought the video was rather boring. It may have been better If I had figured out how to speed up the replay at about 5 times the recorded speed.

If you upload it to a video program on your computer, like Windows Movie Maker, you can speed it up, slow it down, whatever you want.

I'm not or have ever been a trucker, but truckers have an important job to do and many have ridiculous/stressful delivery schedules. I try to let them in when they need to change lanes and let them have the room to make turns. Too many don't give truckers a break.

Was that a botanical garden to your right, at around 4 minutes into that video? I was reminded of the Japanese Gardens at the Botanical Garden in St. Louis.

I bought one a couple weeks ago too - went with Contour instead of GoPro mostly because I like the mounting options better. Also I got the GPS version so I can upload rides to Strava.

I've been having a lot of fun playing with it.

Here's a screenshot:

Today I caught an endangered species of snake crossing the road in front of me, and some turkeys just being turkeys.

Well, I tried the chest strap on tonight's ride, and there was almost no drivetrain noise at all. The bike frame must conduct the sound to the camera when it's rigidly mounted.

Well, it's a waterfront park that has flower gardens. It's one of the destinations my wife and I often chose to ride to.
Here's some info on it.

I had looked a bit at the Contour, but didn't find it sold locally. I know it has lots of features, so I'm sure you're going to love it.
Got some video footage of that scene? Love to see it.

Thanks. Always appreciate when folks give us a break, and always try to reciprocate. Sometimes though, we have no option but to inconvenience other road users.
Last Monday morning, I had one of those delivery spots in Chicago that nightmares are caused by.
7:30 am delivery appointment to an old facility on the edge of a residential zone, on a very busy 2 lane street with bicycle lanes and parking on both sides. I had to back in off the street with no more than inches to spare between the parked cars, and a narrow alley to put my 53' wagon into. The alley was not deep enough to accommodate the whole unit either, so when I was tight against the dock, I was blocking the bike lane, and a portion of the travel lane.
Now that is stressful. There was a huge amount of bike traffic as well, so I was not too popular with a lot of cyclists that morning.
